Bench Dog® Tools No. 7 Jointer Plane

Bench Dog's No. 7 Jointer Plane is the longest in the bench plane lineup. Thanks to it's lengthy sole, it quickly levels dips and high spots to produce a straight, square edge prior to edge joining. It also performs the final flattening of surfaces before finishing with a smoothing plane. Quality materials, precision machining and solid construction result in a hand plane that's an absolute pleasure to use. The sole is precision ground flat. The blade is made from thick 1/8'' hardened carbon steel for reduced chatter and excellent edge retention. Solid sapele is used for the comfortable tote and knob, adding a touch of elegance. Each plane includes a case, sock, manual and a Certificate of Inspection with measurements specific to your plane for sole flatness and blade hardness.

Features:

  • Ideal for edge jointing and final flattening of surfaces before smoothing
  • Ductile cast iron body for superior strength and resistance to impact
  • Adjustable frog lets you narrow the blade opening for fine shavings
  • Easy depth-of-cut adjustment and lateral blade adjustment
  • Solid brass cap iron and threaded fittings for smooth action
  • Sole of plane and back of blade are flat to tight tolerances
  • Blade and sole are treated with a protective layer of oil
  • Certificate of Inspection included for each tool
  • Minimal setup and tuning required before use

Premium performance at mid market price
Excellent jointer. Almost works better for smoothing than my smoothing planes. Works very well for jointing/flattening. The blade does require additional honing out of the box, but aside from that, all controls work as they should. There's a single screw for adjusting the frog. The blade advance mechanism is responsive and the lateral adjustment works as it should.
The performance I get from this is comparable to the performance I get from my veritas and lie Nielsen planes. Very, very pleased with this

Great plane at a decent price, makes lightning quick work of jointing bookmatched sides and backs when I’m making guitars. Sharp out of the box, easy to adjust, great weight makes for smooth action.

Nice plane
I like the materials of this plane and it’s makeup.
The 4 star rating has to do with the hour taken cleaning and honing I did before I could try it

Functionally priced
Had to tune in blade and sole. Sole was not to specs per included certification just a couple of thousands out. I expected this at this price range. Just an hour of work and money saved. Blade may not be top on line steel but functional. Plane works fine for my needs.
