Great all around router
This router combines power and precision in one very versatile package. The 1/2” collet makes for easier and more stable routs, the plunge depth stops and micro adjustment makes setting depth predictable and easy, and the on handle trigger and work light are just nice features. I use it both as a plunge router and attached to a router table. I have ended up using it much more than I expect d to given its ease and versatility.

Woodworking Experience:
Excellent, solid tool for any workshop
As has been my experience with all my Bosch tools, this router is well thought out and well built. This is my first plunge router which I'm using in conjunction with Rockler inlay templates. The plunge function is smooth and very controllable. The feature combination of trigger position, stepped turret and locking depth control allow excellent control over the router especially when attempting detailed work. Outstanding product!

Woodworking Experience:
`Best all purpose router for fine work
This Bosch router is the easiest heavy duty router to use. My 30+ years of experience has shown me that an accurately adjustable router is indispensable. The most important features include the trigger on the handle and the adjustable plunge dial, and the stepped turret that encourage one to rout in steps that lower the stress on the bits and the machine as well as the workpiece. My only caution is "don't ever drop it!" It is a bit heavy to lift but that helps with stability when cutting very hard wood.

Woodworking Experience:
This router is simply the best...
This router is simply the best I've ever used. Bosch did the important stuff right! the plunging action is the smoothest I've ever used and when the router is locked it is rock solid. On top of the basics, there are a few nice extras like the LED light, the trigger switch and the ability to do a fine height adjustment after locking the plunge mechanism. This router is every bit the equal of the Festool products I've used and at less than half the price.

I just got this plunge router...
I just got this plunge router along with the fixed base attachment which I've yet to use. The plunge mechanism works great, I like the light allot and the trigger grip on/off switch. Depth stop is good too. I also like that changing bits is done with two wrenches. The push button one wrench scheme of the Ridgid fixed/bonus plunge base is what kept me from purchasing that affordable router. This Bosch is replacing a inexpensive 28 year old Craftsmen fixed base which also had a trigger switch grip, so it's what I'm used to and what pushed me to spend the extra money on the Bosch. So far the only bad thing I can say is that it's on the heavy side.

I own this router, and will want to buy a router lift at some point so I can adjust the height from above the table. Due to the connectors running vertically on the outside of the router housing (when removed from the base), it looks to me that this router will be incompatible with a lot of lifts. Can anyone tell me if this is the case, or if I will simply need an adapter, etc? I am also wondering if you need to have the router in the base in order to turn it on....

Thanks in advance for the advice!

BEST ANSWER: He option is to buy a 690 motor only
I have the fixed base version of this router (MRF23evs). I'd like to consider buying the plunge base for it but I don't see it offered or listed anywhere. Is it available? If so, what is the price?

How smooth is the plunge? Some of the routers I have examined rocked back and forth when pushing down before they locked at depth.

BEST ANSWER: Very smooth. I was cutting grooves in a rotating wood wheel and the whole operation went very smoothly.
