Bosch TS1005 Zero-Clearance Insert for 4000 and 4100 Table Saws

Item #
53542
Rating:
28% of 100

This zero-clearance table saw insert is compatible with Bosch 4000 and 4100 table saws (#31236, sold separately). It backs up your cut on the underside of the workpiece, to eliminate chipping and tearout. This makes it ideal for precision cuts, or for ripping thin material, where there is a risk of the material falling between the insert and blade. Four leveling screws ensure that the insert lies flush with the table, while four included fastening screws make raising the blade through the insert a safe operation. Plastic construction.

Zero clearance insert.
It work but there must be pre-cut metal ones available. You get what you pay for.

It's cheap plastic, bends easily, and is challenging to properly set to the correct height to match the table saw. I was expecting higher quality from Bosch.

Too flexible
The other reviewers are dead on correct. This thing flexes in the middle. For the un-initiated or beginner woodworkers, the reason you don´t want this is because if you're pushing your wood through the blade and suddenly as you're pushing, part of your wood "sinks" down into the blade due to the insert flexing, you will have a deeper, uneven cut. No good.

Woodworking Experience:
Intermediate
too thin and flimsy
My current zero clearance inserts both for Dado and thin kerf blades are home made and rigid. I needed to get a new insert for a new blade and was willing to get a "factory" or manufacturer grade zero clearance insert.
The fit is perfect into the machine, but the plastic is too flimsy on either side of the kerf as the insert plate will deflect down when pressure is applied to the work piece.
I just believed the factory insert would be sturdier than my home made inserts...

Woodworking Experience:
Advanced
Not strong enough
Once installed and adjusted, it fits as described. When cutting small items the insert flexes and binds against the blade. Not strong enough support in middle of the insert. Will try and make my own out of wood next.

BEST ANSWER: I don't know. I don't own a Craftsman or know anyone who does.
