Bread Knives
Bought one kit and 2 blades to make 3 knives. 2 were maple and walnut and one was maple & cherry. Made bread boards to go with them. Very easy to do and a lot of fun. Everyone loved them and now I have to make more. Will be ordering more blades soon.

I've now made 8 or so...
I've now made 8 or so of these breadknives. I only used the kit for the first one, and since have been making my own blanks and using just the hardware. The pattern needs to be enlarged by 325% by my copier at least, which requires two pieces of 8 1/2 x 11 paper, but it's fairly trivial to shift the pattern over and then tape the two pages together. For first timers, the pattern fits better on the blank at an angle. It did appear at first to not fit the blanks. The knife blade works very well as a bread cutter. I've made so many because I keep getting asked to make more from people who have seen the first few.

It was an easy project to make. When I went to drill the holes for the blade I drilled four holes so it can be used for both a right handed or left handed person. I also made the box and flocked it. I will get more so I can give them for gifts.

not good
I bought this kit and I made the handle, last night I predrilled the holes, as soon as tightened the screws the wood cracked on both sides. also the blade is not hard and it has too much play to it, on both sides in and out. very disappointing.

Arrived in short time and in...
Arrived in short time and in good shape. Couldn't find plans till I opened package, small photo was disapointing. Glued up well, cut out ok, sanded fine and attached blade and split out the wood, reglued, filled holes, drilled and tossed screws. Went to smaller size, worked great. Love the way it cuts. It needs bigger diagram to follow and smaller screws.

Wood was good, blade works very well if attached with some tension. Unfortunately the pattern is not full sized! It was more of a task to up-size the scaled pattern than the project itself.

I initially came here just looking for the blade, but when I saw the whole kit with the nice different types of wood, I decided to order rather than just use the one type of wood I had originally planned.

Bread knife blades, are they stainless steel or teflon coated steel ?
Barry B on May 27, 2015
BEST ANSWER: The blades I received are stainless steel
What are the screws ?
Dave W on Oct 24, 2016
BEST ANSWER: The screws hold the blade in place what you need to do is build a holder 2 thin boards to hold the frame in place then cut two 1/8 thick pieces put these between the pieces and under the frame use a clamp in the center of frame to make it have a bow in it then drill pilot holes for the screws and mount the blsde if you dont have the blade taunt it will not cut
