Cherry Turning Blank, 2'' x 2'' x 36''

Rich coloring and easy workability make cherry an excellent candidate for turning on the lathe—takes a nice finish and polish.

Cherry exhibits a pinkish, rosy tone when fresh off the lathe, but darkens over time to a deep, lustrous red. The narrow sapwood has a creamy color, similar to hard maple. Use these blanks full-length to make table legs, balusters and chair spindles, or cut them down to make tool handles, rolling pins and other smaller turnings. The blanks are rough sawn and may contain some sapwood. Dimensions are nominal.

Cherry turning blanks
These 2x2 blanks arrived in perfect condition. No marks at all. They are really 2x2, not 1 1/2 so I was able to trim down all sides and they made great table legs.

Although these blanks are usually excellent, the past 4 sent
contained one which had a large crack and one which had a large gouge. Two were very good. I was able to work around the gouge but the crack had to be hidden. Not the usual excellent product.

I've purchased these blanks before. They give me several pieces to turn. Seems a better value than the shorter blanks.

In the overview it states the measurement is nominal but in a comment someone said it measures 2”x2” not 1 1/2” and was just wondering what the actual measurement was?Thank you.
Allen M on Nov 5, 2017
BEST ANSWER: Hi Allen. Dimensions are NOT nominal. It measures 2" x 2" (or more precisely, 1-15/16" x 1-15/16").

Are these kiln dried or green?

BEST ANSWER: kiln dried..
I want to use these to cut veneer strips from, would the rough cut allow for this to be done, or would I have to prepare the pieces (plane them down, etc.) before this could be accomplished?

Maple Turning Blank, 2'' x 2'' x 36''
BEST ANSWER: While 'rough cut' the piece I got was pretty smooth with only a few checks/nicks in it. It wasn't like rough milled lumber and was closer to a finished board with some flaws.
