Worth The Money !!!!!
Here is my opinion after 2 weeks. My machine arrived in approximately 5 days from the time I ordered it. I purchased the touch plate and the dust boot also. Upon opening everything and inspecting it all seemed to be fine. It was well packed with no damage. The first thing I did was check the bed for square by turning it up side down on a flat surface and measuring it from corner to corner on the black supports. I found it to be out of square by 1/4 of an inch. I loosened the red rails and squared the bed. I assembled the machine on the rolling cart I had for it and rechecked the square of the machine and all was still square. Installing the software and connecting everything was easy. I made a waste board from two pieces of 3/4 MDF put together with contact cement. I used t-nuts on the underside for the hold downs and weld nuts for the t-slots all from fastnal. The waste board is 33" x 17". When I installed the waste board I aligned the waste board to the uprights of the gantry. So it would be square to the machine. I then leveled the waste board and it cut it perfectly square to 24" x 13" at 1/8 deep.
My first project was the laser box for my daughter.
I have read many reviews and for the ones that are negative they probably just need to learn how to set it up and run the machine. It is very easy to use if you think ahead and take your time and don't try to cut to much at a time. The most important thing one should have is a good set of calipers in inch, fractions, and metric to measure thickness and diameters along with a fraction to decimals chart. I have many project for this machine and am impressed with the quality and heaviness of the machine it is well built.

I'm a Hobbist and this machine has opened up a crazy array of potential in so many ways. The V-Carve program with NO CNC experience is easy to learn, and my very first carving was perfect!!! VERY HAPPY !!

Awesome. Great software.
Now that I’ve had this a couple months and have gotten used to the (easy) software, I’m coming up with lots of cool ways to use it for projects. Fun!
The dust boot anf plate were worth getting, too. I played around with the laser module but haven’t found much use for it yet...
Very happy with this purchase.
I chose to use a Bosch 1617evs router with this. So far, so good.

Great machine with a ton of capabilities. Good out of box operation. I would fully recommend this product.
I love this machine!!’ I prepared myself before receiving the machine by reviewing the Vectric tutorials and by watching Mark Lindsay’s you tube videos. This made the transition pretty seamless. I still have a TON to learn but knowing there are resources out there including the Shark CNC forum, the next few months are going to be fun as I start stretching the envelope. I would have given 5 stars but I must say that the owners manual from the manufacturer (New Wave) is very sketchy and not well written. For the amount of money invested, I expected a well written concise “Getting Started” manual with more in depth material similar to the computer manufacturers.

Rock Solid Machine
There are some pros and cons about my experience with the CNC Shark II. Delivery took twice as long as the 7 business day estimate. A good faith estimate would have said 10 - 14 business days, then if I received it earlier I would have been ecstatic. The unit arrived in 2 large boxes and were VERY well packed. The CNC bed and gantry are rock solid and machied to close tolerances. Very easy to assemble... but the controller box was dead-on-arrival. I contacted Next Wave and received a new controller in less than 48 hours. When I tried to register the unit the access code would not work. Another call to tech support and they had me up and running in 10 minutes. Let's attribute all of these negatives to problems meeting high demand with the free laser giveaway program.

The VCarve software is great. I created a file to checker rifle grips in a few hours. It ran flawlessly. Documentation on both hardware and software could be better. Tip: Get the book 'CNC Router Essentials: The Basics for Mastering the Most Innovative Tool in Your Workshop' and read it cover to cover while you are waiting the 14 business days for your CNC Shark II to arrive.

can you load a photo such as a jpeg into the software to carve?
g s on Nov 16, 2018
It all depends on the software you will be using to run the machine. The machine comes with VCarve Desktop. If you want to carve photos with the router or spindle I would suggest that you consider using Vectric PhotoVCarve. If you would like to Laser a photo Nextwave has a Raster program that will convert the photo to a tap file even with that you have to adjust the brightness and contrast of the photo for it to laser good. Also it will depend on the type of wood you will be using soft woods work good as harder woods can be difficult. In the desk top program you can import a jpg and edited it with the photo editor then convert it to vectors. After that you might be able to carve it and laser it. However, it will take a lot of trial and error to get a good outcome. I would suggest looking on the Shark Forum for more information and visit vectric web site for more information on different software. I had the same questions as you did before I purchased the machine. I found that I can do just about anything I want to do with my Shark. You just have to try different things and work with the learning curve to figure things out. All CNC machines have a learning curve and it takes time to understand the programs.

I can’t get my laser engraver to work. Can you help troubleshoot?
Mary B on Aug 25, 2019
BEST ANSWER: Getting the laser engraver to work requires that the correct drivers are installed in the software. I called the NextWave support and they hooked me right up. They just emailed me the correct files and I had no problem with it.
Can I cut metal with this machine ?
Patrick K on Feb 16, 2019
BEST ANSWER: You might and that’s a big might be able to cut then soft metal. You would have to take it really slow and small cuts. It is designed mainly for wood and some plastics. I would recommend contacting Nextwave to see if I would void the warranty since metal shavens could eat at the rails and bearings

Will this machine work on a 36" x 19" piece of wood?
Robert T on Jun 17, 2018
BEST ANSWER: The maximum working space along the Y axis is approximately 22 inches and along the x axis approximately 12 inches. In order to have something as large as 36" x 19" the piece would have to be tiled to an acceptable size for the CNC and then fitted together once the CNC work was complete.
Will this laser cut up to 1/4" wood for making parts?
Gary L on Oct 13, 2019
BEST ANSWER: This is a low power laser diode, which is designed for superficial engraving and marking. It is not intended for, or capable of, cutting.
My router motor is 3.5 inches in diameter. Will it mount?
Walt B on May 10, 2019

Reference the Shark II with laser module: I see the wattage of the laser as some 3-watts which seems a bit weak. Can this module be upgraded to a higher wattage?
Richard F on May 13, 2018
BEST ANSWER: At this time the laser diode is limited to approximately 3 watts.
Is there anywhere that you can actually see this in operation and have a opportunity to ask questions?
Chris W on Apr 27, 2018
BEST ANSWER: Depending on where you're located, there are CNC user groups, if you're lucky enough to be close to one it would be a great source. You can get feed back on machines, bits, etc. Mines still new enough, I show it off to anyone I can get to sit still long enough for me to fire it up. Check with the nearest store, they usually have the skinny on users willing to demo or users groups.
