Trying to match existing glass in a directory at a local college. Hopefully this will be the one.

I went to a couple glass stores where I was quoted about $100 for two small pieces of textured glass like this for a medicine cabinet I was building. The money I saved covered most of the other materials.

How much smaller should the glass be than the opening for it?
Richard R on May 31, 2016
BEST ANSWER: 1/8" overall deduction from hard opening size (1/16" clearance all 4 sides) allows for expansion and contraction.
for the rain textured glass is one side smooth and the other side textured?
Maryellen S on Mar 24, 2018
BEST ANSWER: Hi Maryellen...I can only speak for the *ridged* glass I've bought at Rockler. But yes, the ridged stuff is completely flat on one side, w/ ridges on the other. I can only imagine their "rain texture" is similar. Idea: if you have the time...simply order a small amount, like 6in by 6in (or 1ft by 1ft) and see if you like it, the order your real piece, if so. They do a GREAT job in packing (DOUBLE cardboard, protective corners), and they cut it accurately. All my art friends who see the ridged glass I've used simply can't refrain from reaching out and running their fingers of the ridges. The product is well worth the money.--Hop this helps...Paul Baker
Can you do a 46 1/8" tall piece? Online quote warning said 44" max??
Ken S on Nov 17, 2016
BEST ANSWER: Hey Ken---that's a great question. It may be their glass only comes in 44" sheets. OR, maybe its just easier to ship stuff at 44" or under, maybe some UPS rule. So, good question, and don't give up. Tell 'em you'll pay extra for shipping if needed. I've ordered that exact same glass (tho more like 30" lenthg, and it always showed up accurately cut and VERY well packed (double boxes, styro corners...the works). Good luck on your project! Another option: If Rockler just can't do it---maybe print out a photo of what you want (texture, etc) and bring it around to a couple glass shops in your city/town. For them, a 47" piece is nothing special. They may have to order the glass for you first, and you'd have to wait a week or so...but probably worth it.
will an IR signal be passed/received through this glass?
Victor S on Jan 1, 2016
BEST ANSWER: Probably not ,the distortion will likely scatter the signal, it will greatly depend on the sensitivity of the detector
