So sorry to report, we are not happy with our date attachment. It leaves too much space between our logo stamp and the date. The year looks like its floating down there by itself. Would not recommend because of the way it attaches with too much space between the date and logo and only takes four digits. For the price I was hoping to be able to stamp at least the month and year.

Love it!
I bought this as part of a gift for my father. He hasn't gotten it yet, but he always dates his works of art, so I thought this would be the perfect gift!

Date Works Great
The date attachment works great with my new electric branding iron. Very happy with the results.

It was easy to attach and adjust such that the date meets the wood surface at the same time as the remaining brand. I've branded dates into both walnut and maple so far with great results. You can only put four numerals for the year in the attachment, so you can only brand the year (not month/year). However, for me the year is good enough as a reminder of when the piece was completed.

Overpriced -- but needed
Greatly overpriced -- difficult to align with basic burner - greatly needed to record year of construction.

Date attachment
It's very difficult to get the date to be at the same level as the other text on the branding iron. after 3 tries I still haven't got it right.

Branding Initial Iron and date attachment.
I have never before written a negative rating but this item is neither as advertised/shown or of any acceptable use. The date attachment arrived without pieces making it unusable in years with a 6,7 or 9. This was corrected. The initial iron came with a bar at each side of the initials not just a small head as shown. This makes the brand way too large for typical use. I will have to grind off the side bars to make acceptable. The iron is sized in a manner that places the date too far below the initials when mounted as close as the standard iron will permit. This makes the total brand too large for an unobtrusive marking. Additionally there is no position locking of the branding head and upon heating it loosens on the mount and spins.

On waiting for warm-up with the initial use and making 12 sample brands, none were acceptable. My first thought was to throw this expensive piece in the trash where it belongs. I would not ever recommend this package.

What is the size of the numbers for the date stamp?
Lawrence K on Jan 13, 2016
BEST ANSWER: Each number is 3/16" x 1/8". As-is you need to insert four numbers next to each other in the date attachment so the entire width will be 3/16" x 1/2" for the entire year.

BTW, the numbers slide into a slot side-by-side and are then held in place with a screw + washer on each end that presses the four numbers together. So you can't insert just one, two or three numbers in the attachment as they will slide side-to-side due to the missing numbers. The kit didn't come with "blanks" to take up extra space in case you want to use fewer than four numbers. You might be able to create your own "filler" material to take up the extra space, but just be aware of this design.
What is the style and size of the "TWS" initials on the custom branding head?
Lawrence K on Jan 13, 2016
BEST ANSWER: If you look at the picture you can see the style. I would say block style. I didn't measure them but they look like a 1/4" in size. I've used it twice and it seems to work well, takes a long time to heat up. Hope that helps.
Can the date attachment be used with any of the customized brand heads or just the custom initial brand head?
Theresa D on Dec 26, 2015
BEST ANSWER: Sorry for the delay. I think the date stamp will work with any of the brands. It clamps on at the heated end above the stamp. Mine is a .875" dis rod it looks like that is standard.

Am I correct in observing that the data attachment only stamps the year and not the day and month?
Douglas H on Dec 22, 2015
BEST ANSWER: It only has room for four digits, no spaces, special characters or punctuation. You could put 1215 for Dec 2015, but that may not help much. It is designed for year only.
does the attachment come with the numbers or are they separate?
R H on Nov 8, 2015
BEST ANSWER: See "What's included". The date attachment comes with digits to get you to a certain year in the future. When I look at the current list, it should get you to 2043. There are three 2s to be able to stamp 2022, and two 3s to be able to stamp 2033. But there is only one 4, so you would have to buy and additional 4 to do 2044. Then you could get to 2054, but would need an extra 5 to do 2055. My original that I bought in the 1990s got me to 2010, but only came with one 1, and one 2, and one 3, etc., so I now had to buy extra digits to get through my potential lifetime.
Is the size of custom branding head limited with the date stamp? It appears the logo branding head is larger than the "TWS" initial custom head and may not work with the date stamp, please clarify.
Lawrence K on Jan 13, 2016
BEST ANSWER: My custom branding plate has my signature and is 1" x 3" with a 7/8" shaft attached to the back. The date attachment has a collar that wraps around this 7/8" shaft for attachment to the branding plage, and then the the date hangs either above/below the branding plate. The distance that the number assembly hangs above/below the branding plate is controlled by an adjustment slot so you can push the number assembly further/closer to the branding plate as needed. Some branding plates are smaller/larger so the distance from the plate is variable given the size of your particular plate. However, the furthest you can push the date away from the centerpoint of the branding plate shaft is ~21/32".
What is the TWS??
A shopper on Jun 27, 2015

Is it possible to use the date attachment by itself? That is to say, can the custom head be removed and just burn a date in something?
Peter H on Dec 10, 2015
BEST ANSWER: The custom head can not be removed...but the date attachment is on a sliding collar which enables you to slide it forward about 1/4" in front of the head so that, when branding, the date will be the only thing touching the material being branded. So, YES, it is very easy to just brand items with the date.

sorry im confused.. can you tell me what iron i have to buy to use this with??
r s on Nov 18, 2016
