Domino Template
This last purchase is my third template purchase I have worn out the first two templates. This is a very easy way to make dominoes. I would highly recommend it to anyone. The set and box shown below are made from solid mesquite. The box lid even has an imprint purchased from Rockler.

Family Fun
I made two sets so the entire family could have fun playing dominoes together. Take your time preparing the blanks. I had the best results cutting them out with a Japanese razor hand saw.

dominoes for christmas... slam dunk
My family went bananas for these. I thought it was gonna be a dumb present, but now a new term called "dominoes jealous" has been coined. That's folks that know about the dominoes I made and didn't get any...
The v-groove router bit from Bosch was about $27-30, the roundover bit was about $18-20... The jig was $35ish. After you spend time veneering and making material... you're $100 in before you know it and you thought you were spending about $40.
Other than that... great jig. All 11 sets came out perfectly. Even the chipped veneers on the one set that wasn't glued properly looked authentic and cool. Meaning... even the mistakes look cool.
Jig and drill bit are easy to use and are a fun family type project.
After making these in the shop I saw the Target version of plastic dominoes and pleased to see that I'd saved a lil money by mass producing them from scrap in my shop.

Overall, a good present for folks.
These are old wood shelving from WVU's old library. Sanded/found walnut veneer on cork on poplar.
walnut veneered poplar... poplar on walnut in the background.

L J on Jun 21, 2015
I like to play dominos. I have a basement full of salvaged walnut that I've not been able to find a project to use on for quite a while. I chose the domino template because I want to create one of a kind domino gift sets for friends and family. Also, I may just try and sell some sets. This template will allow me to fill up spare time doing something I love, working with wood. And use up the walnut

do the domino kits include the wood for dominos?
Stephen R on Jan 7, 2016
BEST ANSWER: No - you get to choose your own - denser is better for a better hand feel of the dominos
Just bought template. I understand using the V notches for size of dominoes. This gets you the cut marks for the interior of the template. But what do you use to mark the outer edges of the template before cutting?
wayne b on Dec 14, 2018
BEST ANSWER: Wayne, I laminated two different type of wood then cut them into strips. I used the template to make the dots. This worked best for me. I make 10 sets and using the template and drill made the best sets, far better than using my drill press and marking the spots.
What diameter is the bit? I'm assuming it is rounded like a bullnose router bit - true?
Ron H on Jul 22, 2018
BEST ANSWER: I put some calipers on it and compared it to my drill bits, it appears to be a 7/32”...and yes it is rounded like a bullnose router bit. The label says Insty-bit on it. Hope this helps.
How thick should the domino's be? Rockler discontinued the blanks and now have to veneer the wood with the woods that I want. Thanks for the help!
Charles H on Mar 2, 2016
BEST ANSWER: Mine are 3/8" the same as sets made by Puremco
Wanting to make Dominos with Rocklers jig. What wood stock should I use to make these?
Jody G on Nov 2, 2018
BEST ANSWER: I made 2 sets.. One was maple with walnut veneer and one was walnut with curly maple veneer.. It took some practice to get clean pieces but in the end it made a good Christmas gift..
Curious to know what the approximate size diameter the dots are on the dominos?
