Dry your green turnings in just 12-48 hours—no heat, motors or vacuums required!

Dry Fast™ Wood Drying Agent, 15 lbs.

Item #
100% of 100

Dry Fast dessicant beads let you dry out green, wet wood up to 1'' thick in just 12 to 48 hours, with little to no checking or cracking. It's a fast, hassle-free method for drying items like pen blanks, handle blanks, and rough-turned bowls and platters. Just bury your workpiece under the beads and seal in an airtight container. As the beads absorb moisture from the wood, they turn from blue to pink, indicating that it's time to check your workpiece for proper moisture content. Made in USA.

  • Accelerated wood drying system—wood is dry in just 12 to 48 hours
  • Even absorption from all sides for greatly reduced checking and cracking
  • No heat required to dry your wood
  • Bead color changes from blue to pink as it absorbs moisture
  • Beads can be dried out and reused (takes just 1-2 hours in customer supplied drying oven)
  • A drying bag is included to hold the beads and your wood

  • Instructions included for drying the wood and redrying the dessicant beads for reuse

I'm buying more!!!
Since getting his lathe, my husband has been turning bowls for several months now...everything from select pieces of our firewood or from freshly cut rounds of all types of wood. We have been burying the bowls in sawdust to dry and this can take up to a year. I saw the Dry Fast product and decided to try it out, ordering 30#. It was delivered quickly. We put some really wet large bowls that were 40% in the beads and 2 days later they read 9% except for the very bottom which was somewhat thicker read 19%. Another day and the bowl was perfect. We are astounded and very happy. No cracking or shape changes noted. We put several bowls in each BAG, so not sure if that slowed things down, but for us, this is a remarkable find allowing us to finish the fine tuning and sanding/polishing for the final product in a few days versus months! The beads re-charged easily in glass cake pans in the oven at 200 with an occasional stir for 2-3 hrs. Would highly recommend this to others as a quick, safe way to dry wood pieces.

Woodworking Experience:
Dries blanks fast without checking
Did what it was advertised to do. We dried two 9” diameter mesquite rough turned bowls. No checking and almost no ovaling. The blanks were pretty wet. We found it took 72 hours to dry. Recharging the desiccant was easy.

Woodworking Experience:
From wringing wet to 9% in 3 days
I am very impressed with the Dry Fast wood drying agent. I used it on a turned bowl that was green and literally wringing wet during turning. After turning, I started the drying process in the microwave oven and reduced the moisture content to 29-30%, followed by a sanitization cycle in a convection oven that reduced the moisture to 19%. Next came 24 hours in the Dry Fast wood drying agent. The final moisture was 9-11% without any warping or cracking. To renew the Dry Fast it put it in the oven as instructed and the pink pellets returned to their blue color in 75 minutes or so at 230F. I highly recommend this product!

How large a bowl can I bury in 15lbs of beads??
Syd Y on Jun 5, 2018
BEST ANSWER: using the container, you can put a bowl slightly smaller than 10" and about 6" tall.
Putting this in a bag would result in drying a larger bowl
Is this safe to use on bowls intended for food since it contains Cobalt chloride as the color change indicator?
Tim M on Nov 22, 2018
BEST ANSWER: Hello Tim, I have no idea if any of this chemical is released into the wood or if it could pose a hazard. I would think it would not especially since I re turn another 1/4" inch or so after bowl has been dried. I typically use a hard wax to finish. I think this seals the surface effectively. I really do like this product and it has exceeded all my expectations. I plan on buying a third container of it soon because I turn and dry very large bowls sometimes several at a time. I don't use the bags that came with the product. I've found that a appropriately sized plastic cotainer works easiest. Sorry about the long answer. As an added note i always sell my bowls with the advice to not use them for hot liquids.
