Must-have.
If you are using a router (vs. a water cooled spindle), get this dust boot. It helps reduce the dust that blows all over due to the air cooled router’s internal fan.

Good
So far so good, works great with dust collector, using small hose first 4 ft then 4" hoses.

Excellent Accessory
Really pleased that this accessory is available for the CNC. I worked without it to start with but now cleanup and overall dust prevention is greatly reduced. I do not have any bad remarks but do think that having the swivel connector is also a must have item.

Works reasonably well, but...
...it could work better if the suction was pointed towards the router head rather than the current orientation, which is out in front and straight down. I've switched to using it with my shop vac and the larger and more powerful dust collector would suction the bristles on one side of the boot.

The overly stiff bristle issues reported in previous reviews seems to have been addressed. They are quite flimsy on mine. They now flex easily. So much so that they get sucked into the vacuum at the front edge if you don’t adjust the intake down. Does what you want it to do pretty well. Keeps the chips from scattering around the room and fine dust that once coated everything in the room is gone. The reduced vacuum intake means chips still accumulate on the workpiece, but that beats having them scattered in a 3 foot diameter around the table. Watch for clearance issues with the holddown clamps. The bolts on mine needed to be trimmed because adding the two layers of laminate below the router mount caused it to bottom out on the tops of the factory hold down bolts as it passed over.

Bolt holes too small
The boot works great but the holes drilled for the factory nuts are too small. I have an HD3 and you have to remove the old bolts with the torx head and replace them with longer hex head bolts but the factory nuts don't fit through the holes on the lower brush attachment, I had to drill them out. The suction is not too good but that is probably the dust collector I am using. I am happy with the product but not that happy with the install.

Works very well for keeping dust confined to the immediate work area. Can slip loose during long sessions but I used a thin gauge wire to secure it.

DYI upgrade
I agree with Duncan's previous review with regard to the stiffness of the bristles when using shorter bits. I experienced two "crash and burns" that were my fault for attempting to use the dust boot with short bits. I looked at other dust boots and finally decided to modify the existing one. I inspected the existing boot and found the existing brushes could be removed and replaced by removing the retaining screws. Also it looks like you could directly replace the brush strips with brush strips of various heights with 3/16 wide brush strips available from an industrial suppler( such as McMaster-Carr). I decided to also the Aluminum strip brush holder too. This will make it easier to change the brush strips than using the screws. I ordered brush strips 1, 2 & 3 inch heights to accommodate various bit lengths.

This should help to keep most of the dust on or near the machine. I will be using this in my garage and I don't want to much saw dust to cover my entire garage.

Will this fit HD4 with water cooled spindle?
Terald K on Aug 1, 2018
BEST ANSWER: Yes, the boot will work with the spindle. I can tell you from experience that it may give you some problems with getting a smooth bottom when pocketing. It looks like the bristles are stiff enough to slightly deflect the spindle upward as it applies more pressure as the bristles flex with the movement.
do you need a touch plate with shark 4hd?
James A on Feb 14, 2017
BEST ANSWER: I have the Shark Slimline and it doesn't require a touchplate, although it is hard to be consistently accurate. It is also a real time saver if you are doing the amount of production I do in my sign shop. No more back and forth to see if you have your "z", except to remove the touchplate before you run the machine.
