Dust hood
I don't run the machine without it so I don't know how dusty it would be if I didn't use it, but I can say it does an excellent job of evacuating dust and chips. I can always see the progress of the job because there is no dust. This should not be an option, it should just be part of the package.

Reasonable.
Dust...you can never get rid of all of it but this dust hood does a reasonable job of keeping it manageable. What I don't like is how awkward it makes it to change bits. It is a 4" port, so I had to buy an adapter. Not a big deal but an additional expense.

CW Dust hood
The new dust hood for the Carvewright system works good and I am very happy with it. The website advertises a 2 1/2" dust port size but it is actually 4" and the hose connection seems just slightly too large for a standard 4" adapter but can be made to work. In the pic, there is a flange on the adapter. It's really made for a flush mount but it's all I had on hand.

Dust hood
I just purchased my dust hood from the local Rockler store. They didn't have one in stock, but the salesperson offered to sell the display model that was mounted on the Carvewright machine. The first thing I realized was that the pre-drilled mounting holes on my Carvewright didn't fit...about 1/16" too far apart. I was able to pull the plastic enough to stretch it into place, and then discovered that there are wide gaps on either side of the dust shroud. My old dust collection system was configured to cover these gaps, and I may have to revert back to the old. :( The old system extends up to connect the vacuum hose and is very inconvenient so I'm going to try to work with the new equipment for a while.

On the dust hood for the Carvewright, is that for a 2 1/2" hose or a 4" hose?
Dan B on Nov 14, 2016
BEST ANSWER: It is a 4" port. The website says 2 1/2" but that is not correct.
There are no reviews for the CarveWrite CNC. Obviously the people would review this item have it. What do you think of it? Does it do what it says it does? How durable is it? The Rockler site says it has a 12 month warranty but the manufacturers site says 30 days or 10 hours, which ever comes first. I like the machine and I’m considering purchasing it, but the manufacturers warranty from their website makes me uneasy.

BEST ANSWER: I lost my connection and didn't get to finish my response to the question, so continuing on; there were a couple of third-party vendors that offered dust collection accessories for the CarveWright. Of those two, the metal one seem to work the best and was the cleanest. I don't see them on the CarveWright website anymore so maybe they have discontinued them? I've used the one manufactured by CarveWright for about 6 months now and fits nicely, works well and is much easier to work around when changing carving bits than the third-party metal one I used. The thickness of the plastic is substantial and looks like it would last a long time. The air moving across the plastic does cause some static build-up, causing some sawdust to cling to the top of the dust collector, but that's easily wiped down. I was going to try spraying some static guard on the dust collector the next time I used it to see if that corrected the situation. For the price I don't thing you can go wrong. FF
