A Very good machine
I find this sander did a very fine job of sanding without swirl marks. The 1.25" sanding surface gets into most tight places quite well. One reviewer seemed to be unable to locate replacement sanding discs. However, by calling Dynabrade directly I was given the parts numbers of the different grits. They come in a flat sheets of 25 punch-outs in 80, 120, 150, 180 and 220 grit. I did find that I had to add a moisture collector to my compressor to prevent water from getting into the sander and splashing onto the wood. I have a Porter Cable pancake compressor which may be a tad bit small for this tool as it barely keeps up with the sander's pneumatic demands.

Unfortunate - Good Sander - Nobody sells the PSA discs
Very nice sander, does exactly what I need it to do. It is now useless, because once I ran through the 1-1/4" discs that came with the sander, nobody sells the replacement discs. Extremely irritated that Rockler would sell this "Kit" knowing that they don't sell the sanding discs/pads for it. Well,... I take that back - after multiple dead end phone calls to Rockler and Dynabrade, and an hour of internet searching, I did find 80 grit and 120 grit if I wanted to spend $1/disc and order from Dynabrade themselves. (yes! Dynabrade blew me off stating that they do not list this "Kit", and I would have to contact Rockler. Rockler told me to contact Dynabrade - I had to find the pads on Dynabrade's European Website myself after the Dynabrade Customer Service told me they couldn't help me). No thanks. Kit comes with 9 different grits all the way up to 600, and I can only find 80 and 120?!? I even tried to purchase a 1-1/2 diameter PSA pad w/1/4-20 female threads for the more popular 1-1/2" disc size - no dice. This sander is now useless. Such a waste.

The picture shows a round, grey colored "bumper" at the base of the yellow handle. What is the distance from the bottom of that part to the sanding surface?

BEST ANSWER: The "reach" of the sander is 2 inches. That could probably be extended slightly, perhaps 1/8 inch, by putting washers beneath the orange plastic pad base that screws onto the threads. The threads are 1/4 inch in length. Any more extension would risk stripping the plastic threads on the orange base.
