My earlex Spray Station worked great. Sprayed water based finish on a stand alone kitchen cabinet. Saved me a tremendous amount of time. Sprayed a nice finish no runs and dried fast.
The price was to good to turn down. A free bonus 1.5 needle which I would of had to buy and a $50.00 rebate. Easy to use Very happy with this product.

Great furniture sprayer
Very pleased with the sprayer. It sprayed a lacquer finish flawlessly. It does feel a little light and cheap, but I promise the finish was as good as anything else I’ve used that cost twice as much.

Be Patient, Results Are Awesome!
Be patient, do the proper research, and properly prep the work pieces. For the money this sprayer performs very well. Just finished the kitchen cabinets and Master bath vanity and woodwork, I used Sherwood Kem Aqua Plus waterborne lacquer and the results were amazing. That being said, I downloaded the product data sheets for both the Kem Aqua Surfacer and Kem Aqua Plus Tintable, and talked to Earlex Customer Service, as the product data sheets listed HVLP as a spray method using an air pressure of 8 to 10 psi (3 stage sprayer minimum) and a needle/nozzle set of 1.5mm. my sprayer came with both 1.5 and 2mm needle/nozzles. Earlex Customer service mentioned that the HV 5500 Spray Station only generates 2.2 psi (2 stage), so in light of this information, I used the 2.2 mm needle/nozzle set to compensate for the difference in pressures. Experimenting with flow adjustment knob and this pressure of 2.2 psi, I was able to generate the necessary spray intensity at all 3 pattern settings, and the finish turned out very smooth and flawless. One very important aspect above and beyond the sprayer is workpiece preparation. My items were clean, dry, free of grease, oils, other contaminants, and properly sanded to manufacture recommendations, with additional sanding in between primer coats. All of this work paid off big time. So at the end of the day it's not just buying a sprayer, filling it with paint, and spraying items, don't think the average person would be very impressed with the results. So in summary this sprayer as a tool can provide exceptional results if patience, research, and proper workpiece preparation is employed. Hat's off to Earlex for an awesome entry level HVLP sprayer.

Can u use Earlex 5500 to paint autos ?
Mike C on Apr 29, 2016
BEST ANSWER: It can, but you will need the finer nozzle set - 1.0 and be very careful with viscosity to prevent runs. Some experimenting needed with your paint.
Will this sprayer spray oil base stain?
goodstuff on Jun 5, 2015
Will the Earlex Spray Station 5500 handle interior acrylic paint products with only minor thinning?
A shopper on Jun 5, 2015
BEST ANSWER: The Earlex 5500 will spray most any coating but they need to be thinned to a minimum of 16 seconds. Earlex supplies a measure cup that allows you to fill with paint and time how long it takes to empty. If it empties in 16 seconds or less spray away.
I am not getting a smooth finish coat. I have tried all three needle sizes. The spray is not atomizing small enough particles of paint to create a smooth finish. Do I need to thin the liquid even more?
Wes M on Oct 16, 2018
BEST ANSWER: I don't' know what you are spraying so I'll be general. With latex paint, thin it 10% with water. Water is the only thinner for anything water based. For a nicer finish also add Floetrol to help it level. Use the 2.0 or 1.5mm needle set, depending on how thick you apply the coating. The bigger the needle, the thicker the application. With any proper wood finish such as stain, polyurethane, lacquer, etc. use the 1.5mm needle set, thin if required (usually not much) 5-10% with the proper thinner. Adjust the sprayer for maximum flow with minimum spitting. Spitting is the result of having too much fluid in the airflow. The knob on the back of the spray gun controls fluid flow. Then, spray from 6" away from the project and apply a wet coat with each pass. Lay the project down (if you can) so that gravity helps too!
Will this handle WATCO 63041 Brushing Lacquer?
Pullhook on May 30, 2016

Can this sprayers be used to paint interior walls. Is a mask necessary and is there much drift?
Geri S on Apr 27, 2017
BEST ANSWER: The Earlex line of HVLP are finishing machines, that can spray paint. Most latex paints can be sprayed with the 5500 by thinning 10% with water. There is some overspray, less than 10%, an airless sprayer would have about 60%, so I would still cover things and wear a mask, just a dust mask should be fine in most situations with latex paint. As for walls, well...if it's a perfectly flat drywall, I would say no, but if there is any texture at all, then yes, it will do fine. Feel free to contact us at technical support 888-783-2612.
Can this sprayer be used out side to pint a garage door, or house exterior siding?
Wayne P on Dec 1, 2015
BEST ANSWER: Yes, of course. I use mine in my garage but have used one to stain a deck and pergola. Very versatile tool. Having the correct needle/tip is key.

John P on May 11, 2016
BEST ANSWER: The correct length for the power cord is 5.5 feet.
Used with SW Pro Classic acrylic alkyd? How much thinning?
Starman on Mar 14, 2020
BEST ANSWER: There are two schools of thought. A house painter would want to thin less and use a larger nozzle and hopefully finish with one coat. A finisher would be willing to thin more, use a smaller nozzle and apply as many coats as it takes, usually 2 or 3. We suggest starting by thinning enough, with water, to get the viscosity between 130 and 160 seconds. Then run tests with both the 2 mm and the 1.5 mm nozzle set to determine what works best for your project. If the sprayer is spitting paint, cut down on the paint flow or thin more. We do not suggest thinning more than 20%.
The model number is HV5500US2. Does this come with the cleaning kit and viscosity cup? These do not appear to be listed but usually are included with Earlex products.
HandyGuy on Jul 1, 2016
BEST ANSWER: yes, it comes with lots of brushes and a viscosity cup. you might want to add the 1.0 needle if you plan to get a really good finish. the needles that come with the kit are good, but splatter a little too much.
I wonder if the question about overspray was asking, is this technically an airless sprayer, or does the unit contain a compressor to provide air pressure for painting?
edward b on Nov 8, 2015
BEST ANSWER: No this is not an airless sprayer. It has it's own turban compressor. The HVLP puts more material on the work at lower pressure which cuts down on overspray, but doesn't eliminate overspray completely. Hope this in helpful.
Will this sprayer spray oil based paint?
Gayle J on Oct 7, 2015
BEST ANSWER: Yes-don't dilute too much. Use the finer tip. Best to spay oils horizontally.
will this unit spray latex paint on vinyl siding & hold up in all weather conditions ?
I need to paint my vinyl siding on my house & metal siding on my pole barn.
KENNETH B on May 11, 2016
BEST ANSWER: It could but would take way too long. This is a smaller more precise guy for fine finishing. Go get you a Graco airless with a 515 tip.
Alkyd paints? Will it work?
Tito_ on Jan 23, 2018
BEST ANSWER: It will. The paint may require some thinning, perhaps 10% with water for water based paints and 5% mineral spirits for oil based paints. Never thin paint more than 20%.

Can you spray Advance latex paint with 2.0 tip?
Wayne W on Apr 12, 2020
BEST ANSWER: Yes, you can spray just about anything with the 5500 as long as it's thin enough. The 5500 does have an upper limit viscosity number of 160 seconds through a Ford #4 cup, which comes with the kit. This usually works out to about 10% thinning of latex type paints, with water. If the sprayer spits, you can cut down on paint flow...add a flow agent ( in addition to thinning with water)...stir with a mixer in a drill until the paint is creamy smooth (about 1 minute)...strain the paint. Any one or all of these will make a difference. Also, you should be spraying from 6" from the project and laying down a "wet" coat with each pass, not 5 passes to get it wet. If you can lay the project down and spray down onto it, gravity will help it level too!
Will this spray hot solvents? My Wagner apparently can’t be used with laquer/ laquer thinner and I’m wanting to finish cabinets- always used solvent base and a cup gun but want to upgrade to this or something similiar
Ben D on Apr 29, 2020
BEST ANSWER: Yes you can spray lacquer and clean with lacquer thinner with the HV5500. There is one change you should make. We sell the sprayer with a non-stick coated cup. The lacquer will compromise that coating, we have another cup without the coating. It's part #L0190A.
Will this spray powder glazing for cabinetry?
Scott M on Mar 3, 2019
BEST ANSWER: Yes you can apply powder glaze with the 5500. Use the 1.5mm needle set for the most control or the 2mm to really lay it on.
Is this recommended for use with chalk based mineral style paints?
Ashley on Apr 19, 2020
BEST ANSWER: The 5500 can spray chalk paint. If you want the chunky chalk paint look you can try the 2 mm nozzle that comes with it or you can order the 2.5 mm nozzle set and spray it unthinned. For a smoother appearance use the 2 mm or 1.5 mm with thinned chalk paint, up to 40%. Good luck with your projects.
How many stages?

Does it spray a fine mist?
Kevin B on May 16, 2020
BEST ANSWER: The earless system is an HVLP system, (High pressure low velocity). The spray does come out as a "mist" with fine particles. It has three spray patterns with an adjustable 1'' to 12'' fan width. If you would like to get a sense of how "fine" the mist is, there are examples on youtube.
Can I spray polyurethane water base? If so, do I need to thin it?
FREEDOMFIRE on May 16, 2020
BEST ANSWER: Yes. The Earlex sprayer is a great choice for spraying water based poly. Use the 1.5mm needle and in most cases you can use the product directly from the can without the need for thinning. However, it is still worth checking the viscosity with the measuring cup provided.

what needle and tip for General finishes high performance topcoat. Their web site wants less than 1.5MM ???

BEST ANSWER: I have sprayed the GF High Performance top coat with the 1.5mm needle supplied. You can spray the finish directly from the can without the need for any thinning. You can use the 1.0mm needle if you wish, but I haven't found it necessary when spraying the High Performance, as it has good self leveling properties.

Can this be used for automotive painting like enamel base and clear coats? The Wagner motocoat linked to this one for a better finish for cars.
NekoM on Jan 9, 2020
BEST ANSWER: Have not used for automotive paints but think it should if they are reduced to appropriate viscosity with paint manufacturer’s recommended thinner or reducer.
what material can i spray with a 1.5 mm needle set?
Shawn p on Nov 30, 2018
BEST ANSWER: The 1.5 is your fine finish needle set (furniture, cabinetry). Generally when you want to get a fine finish in 3-6 coats, the 1.5 should atomize properly for you. It can be stain, lacquer, poly or oil based paint or thinned latex paint.
What needle should I use for water-based poly? Seems like 1.5 or 1.0mm. Plan to use the guns almost exclusively for poly and it seems like that may be the ideal material to spray. Thoughts?
Mark O on Mar 5, 2018
BEST ANSWER: 1.5mm is the optimal fine finish needle if you want to be done in 3 or 4 coats. When you go down to the 1.0 you may want to apply 10 or more coats, like musical instruments.
Will the Earlex 5500 system spray marine enamels?
Lou B on Oct 24, 2016
BEST ANSWER: I used mine to spray automotive enamel and I was really surprised how well it came out. I used one part thinner to two parts paint and it went on smoothly. good luck.
How does the #56405 compare to the old model (#61577), which I believe was rated 1000 watts? And to its bigger brother, the Earlex 5500? Looking to spray latex primer and enamel on interior cabinets and trim. Also being able to do larger areas (exterior doors, walls) would be a nice bonus.
