FastCap Kaizen Tool Storage Foam

Item #
90% of 100

Imagine a workshop so clean and organized that you can find your tools with a blindfold on, and tell in an instant if one is missing. With FastCap's Kaizen Foam, it's no longer a figment of your imagination. Just open a drawer to reveal all of your tools exactly the way you organized them, the cutting edges still pristinely sharp. Unlike other versions of tool storage foam, Kaizen foam is layered so you can peel out layers until you reach the desired depth. This means the foam will still have a firm backing once the tools recesses are cut out, and you won't have those annoying floating islands where, say, the middle of a hacksaw was. If you cut the recesses nice and snug, you can even mount the entire panel on the wall. Cut it to size in seconds with a table saw. Sold in two thicknesses: 1-1/8" and 2-1/4", each 2'W x 4'L.

Tech Spec
  • FastCap Kaizen Foam is constructed of many layers of 1/8" thick foam
  • Simply trace around the tool with a marker, cut out the outline, and peel off the layers as you would an orange peel until you reach the desired depth
  • Easily cut to size with a table saw and/or chop saw to fit your drawers or any other space
  • Works much like wood
  • For an easy way to create finger recesses, simply heat a small piece of copper pipe and touch it to the foam-the foam melts away, leaving a perfect semi-circular recess
  • Perfect for router bit storage-just drill holes into the foam

Perfect for displaying and organizing anything. Tools, weapons, etc.
Excellent product, as described. Love it.
The foam is layered nicely so you can easily mark and cut, and then adjust depth for what you are needing. I did this for a RFID cabinet I built and used the remaining in my toolbox drawers. Will definitely order more to finish the projects around the house!

Kaizen Foam a great product
Easy to work with and cut. Use a serrated knife to get best cuts. Great stuff. Use it in tool chests and used the 2.5” in a hanging gun case for my son in law.

FastCap Kaizen Tool storage foam
This was very easy to use and i'm now reorganizing all my drawers. Inexpensive and handy, i recommend for any shop. I cut the profile of the tool and tear out the bottom, trying to be even. It isn't perfect but once the tool is in place, you can't tell and it looks great!
After using the Kaizen foam, my sawblade drawer is neat, organized and it's easy to find everything

Can you peel off a whole layer to make the sheet thinner?
David M on Apr 10, 2019
BEST ANSWER: NO! Despite the description saying in two places that the foam panels are composed of multiple layers roughly 1/8" thick (all true) that they are easily separated. I bought several panels based on that factor and despite probably 2 hours of various attempts I could NOT get the layers to separate. At best, if separating something on the order of about 12" x 18" it would "rip" apart between the laminated areas and almost always would rip through one lamination into another one or two. I really wanted to create 1/4" smooth layers that I then cut to size on a laser printer. My best effort with the assistance of a razor knife left me with a lumpy piece that varied in thickness from 1/8" (and less) to 3/8" and in a couple cases, the foam layers ripped through from one side to the other. "Doesn't peel of easily" understates... if you need to peel layers look elsewhere. "You can cut easily" is exactly right but there is no way you will cut smooth even layers that are 12" wide as I needed.
I want to glue two panels of Kaizen face to face. What kind of glue would be best.?

BEST ANSWER: 3M weatherstrip adhesive P/N 08008 works perfect.
how is this product shipped, is it rolled or flat?
Randy on Oct 18, 2015
BEST ANSWER: While I purchased in-store, the foam was packed in a box, so I would assume it ships flat. Rolling it would likely compromise/cease the foam as its semi rigid.
Can this be order in 4'×8' sheets?
George G on May 10, 2019
BEST ANSWER: The largest sheet that FastCap makes is a 2’ x 4’ which is what I bought at Rockler. In checking the FastCap web page they don’t list anything larger.
Can this be used in a couch cushion?
Delpha H on Apr 27, 2019
BEST ANSWER: This foam is great for being a storage solution. The foam is very firm and I'm not sure how comfortable it would be to sit on. I think it would work good for arm rests under the fabric. With a hot knife you could make very nice molds. Good luck
I have recently purchased a Robert Sorby 6 piece turning tool set. It came in a wooden box and the tools were pressed into foam rubber in the carrying case. My problem is I live in Surprise, AZ and the temperatures here have already reached 120 degrees and probably much hotter in the garage where the tools are stored. When I try to remove the tools from the case the rubber is stuck to the tools and the top layer peels up also. I have sent a email to Sorby looking for a fix but have not had a response. Will your foam de-laminate as the Sorby foam has?
Tom C on Jul 20, 2016
BEST ANSWER: The Kaizen foam is composed of layers, which is good in that you can cut around the outline of a tool, remove the top layers of foam, and leave a pocket that snugly fits the tool. Unfortunately, if the foam were to stick to a tool, it would de-laminate because of its layered structure. I have never had any problem with the Kaizen sticking to tools or anything, but my shop does not get nearly as hot as yours does.
Is this foam compressible?
Mike C on Feb 3, 2020
BEST ANSWER: Compressible to a point. Not as firm as rigid foam but not as soft as memory foam. A little more on the firmer side of the 2.
Does it hold up to outside weather?
Stanley D on Oct 26, 2019
BEST ANSWER: I can't say for certain, but I honestly wouldn't think so. There are multiple layers "glued" together to form a thicker piece of foam. Moisture of any kind would likely break that cohesion over time.
Can this be glued together to make thicker, What did of glue for a more outdoor use?
brian r on Oct 2, 2016
BEST ANSWER: I have use the foam but have never needed to glue pieces to make a thicker one. If the sections of foam are contained in a drawer or box, you can just lay them atop one another and cut through the unglued joint as needed. However, I would think that yellow glue would work to hold the sections together. I would go really easy on the glue simply because you do not need much to keep the sections from sliding around, and cutting through the glue layer will be a little more difficult as you fit items into the thick, deep section you create. Another good way to join sections would be to use good two-sided tape, but I would keep the tape around the edges and away from areas I was going to cut to fit stored items.
Can this foam be rolled? I need to wrap a propane tank
Andrew B on Jun 9, 2020
BEST ANSWER: No this foam cannot be rolled around a tank. While it is somewhat pliable it is not designed for this purpose
Good afternoon, I am a military dioramas enthusiast. Is this product dense enough to support multiple
1/72 scale models and light landscaping items? Thank you.
Werky on Jan 19, 2020
BEST ANSWER: I would say yes, this foam is fairly rigid.
How much weight can this support? Could this be used to walk on, or the base for a hitting mat for golf?
Brian F on Oct 30, 2019
BEST ANSWER: I'm sure you could walk on it but I wouldn't suggest it. It comes in layers and you could probably use it for the tee area and peel off a layer as it is worn out but I would probably find something a little more durable for your use.
Where are the tools to install this product. The razor and long nose marker?
Bob T on Sep 29, 2015
Is this just polyethylene closed cell foam?
A shopper on Jul 6, 2015
BEST ANSWER: Yes and no. It is indeed closed cell foam, but it is laminated in layers that allow you to peel your shape to various depths.
how much heat can this foam take before melting?
Adam B on May 20, 2020
BEST ANSWER: I can not find a specification for the FastCap Kaizen foam. Other similar foam has a temperature Range of 0° to 140° F -180° F.
What is the best way to cut the outlines of what you want to display?
Jon K on Mar 18, 2020
BEST ANSWER: I use an extendable razor knife. Lay the object on the foam and carefully trace around it without going too deep. Then lay the object on a hard surface, take the knife and extend it the depth of the object. Then follow the truce lines and reach in between and pull up the layer.
I need to buy a 36 x 60=3x5 sheet can they be ordered in that size?
Craftywinemomma on Mar 15, 2020
BEST ANSWER: No need. Use a jig saw (or any saw) or even a bread knife to cut to size. Left overs will come in handy for all sorts of project. This stuff is very useful.
Can I use this for an insert for a saggy couch cushion?
Debra B on Nov 3, 2019
BEST ANSWER: Actually, I use it for just that purpose in a favorite chair that is getting old and sags and in the driver's side of my truck seat.
Will this foam absorb or hold water if used in wet applications?
Chad D on Jun 14, 2019
BEST ANSWER: Sorry I’ve never exposed it to water. I would think if it’s in a drawer the drawer would hold water until evaporation
Is this foam safe to laser cut?
Tracy J on Feb 9, 2019
BEST ANSWER: Can’ t answer that - I used a knife. I would consult the manufacturer about flammability.

Have an apache 5800 case. How much and what thickness of Foam go I need to set it up? How many sheets of Kaizen Foam ?
TODD M on Apr 29, 2020
BEST ANSWER: The apache 5800 case has dimensions of 20.25" by 11.3" by 7.7" deep. The Kaizen foam comes in 24 by 48 inch sheets in either 1 1/8 or 2 1/4 inch thickness. So one sheet of the 2 1/4 thick should be enough for one case. The Kaizen foam can be made thinner to fit well in the case.
What do you use to cut this foam?
Donna Y on Apr 24, 2020
BEST ANSWER: You can just use a utility knife or exacto and it will peel off in layers.
Do you offer the foam that has the white middle layers?
navysniper7 on Feb 17, 2020
BEST ANSWER: The Kaizen foam does not have a white layer. All the layers are the same color!
