With measurements to the 1/16" on one side and the millimeter on the other, this 16' tape delivers in any situation. It also boasts a host of innovative features, including erasable notepad and tape surfaces, dual thumb and finger locks, superior ergonomics, compact rubber casing, and a stainless-steel pencil sharpener. Add a SpeedClip (sold separately) to carry your tape and a pencil without the worry of torn pants.
For the quickest, most convenient notes, write directly on the erasable surface of the case itself.
Starting to feel the push toward metric. This device has both imperial and metric. But, this thing is mucho heavy so I don't carry but leave on workbench. Then I take in at night to help me at night with videos.
More than just a tape measure. This is the first tape measure I reach for in my shop now, and I have a few of them. Have inches and metric at the same time is very helpful to me. Used the built in note pad right off the bat, and a few times since. The added bonus of a pencil is very nice and handy, and the belt clip keeps it with me. The numbers are very easy to read. I would recommend this to everyone.
I do most of my work in metric so having a metric tape measure has been on my list. They are hard to find. I really like how the 1/16" increments are labeled. The erasable marking pad looks like it is going to be great. I bought a couple of extra to put on my other tools or tool box. All in all a nicely thought out and build tool. If metric on both sides of the tape was an option, I would have bought that (and probably an English also now that I see the nice marking).
4/29/2008When I first saw this tape, I was excited due to the inclusion of the pencil sharpener and note pad features. However, I can only give this one a "fair" for a number of reasons. The width of the body is 2 and 3/4 rather than the standard 3 inches, so you have to remember to take that into account when measuring with the tool "in the measurement".Next, the end "play" does not seem to be accurate as my measurements seem to be off by 1/16 when pulling the tapeThe pencil sharpener is too cheap and does not work that well and the spring belt clip must be shorter than normal as it falls off my belt a lot. Finally, I would prefer to be able to read either side with inches rather than millimeters on one side that I rarely use.Still, not bad for the price, but I would pay more for an upgraded version of this multi-function tape.Editor's note: The casing on this tape is only 2 ¾ long as this is only a 16' tape. For a 3" length case one needs to step up to a 25' tape. If the measurement is off and the pencil sharpener doesn't work well, we can get a replacement tape to you. In regards to not using the millimeter measurement, we have the Lefty/Righty tape that is all inches which you may prefer instead. After a follow contact by FastCap the previous reviewer writes:10/09/08I am quite surprised that this type of customer service still exists. Rare indeed! I recently purchased (from a local Rockler dealer) your green tape with inch markings on both sides. I like it much better. My only complaint would be that the belt clip doesn't hold as well as many other tapes I have used. I believe that was one of my complaints in the review. Overall, though, it's still probably the best tape measure I have used.No action is necessary on your part, but again, I appreciate your follow up and kind gesture.
I recently purchased 5 of these to give as gifts to a Japanese friend who is a surfboard shaper. Surfboards are still traditionally referred to in inches so he and his crew use inches as well as metric everyday. Price was right, and for their purposes the tape measure was all they really need - they were STOKED to get the both-in one unit - the pencil sharpener and note pad are just handy extras, but appreciated. One of the sharpeners was missing the blade however. 1 out of 5. Ah well.Editor's note: Our customer serice team at 800-376-7856 will be able to assist with replacement of that missing one Brian.
