Very Convenient Product
I picked up this remote switch while in the middle of a project that needed three power tools. the tools already had gates directing the vacuum from my Ridgid Shop Vac. Now I no longer have to walk around my table saw to fire up the vacuum for my router table or radial arm saw.

Very Handy
I wasn't sure how this would work but decided to try it anyway. Glad I did. It's very handy not to have to walk over and turn on/off the shop vac everytime I need it, especially in those situations where you're doing something repetitive.

Pleased with this far!
The remote control vacuum switch seems well made and operation is straightforward. I've used it for a few days and thus far it functions as described. Many reviews that I read indicated that the device turned on the vacuum occasionally, without any input from the user. Many devices are operated by in the home by radio frequency remotes and it is possible that another remote might activate this switch. As a precaution, I unplug the switch when I finish working to avoid the vacuum from turning on and running with no one present.

Just tired of walking back and forth to the vacuum to turn on and off. How many times are you at the table saw ready to go and you remember you forgot to turn on the vacuum. With the remote in my pocket or attached to my apron, I can forget as much as I like going forward and just focus on safety at my saw.
LEON G on May 19, 2016
Unique solution for controlling vacuum in small shop. The Velcro attachment is a nice application. I have used remote switches before, but keeping track of the switch fob can be problematic. This appears to be a good solution.

Mike R on Nov 14, 2015
Using shop vacs, with long hoses, this made it much more efficient. Two vacs, two switches, much more efficient.
James F on Nov 8, 2015
Sounds like a good idea. I was working on scaffolding a few weeks ago and needed this as I had to climb down to turn my shop vac on and off. If this works as advertised I'll probably order a second one.

Convenience/ease of use. The only problem that I've found is finding a convenient place to install the on-off/remote control. It would be nice if they included a Velcro pad that can be mounted anywhere you can stick it.

BEST ANSWER: I use it with a 110v harbor freight collector and have had no problems.
Do they make a 220 model?
A shopper on Sep 3, 2015
BEST ANSWER: No if you want 220 you should look at the ivac stuff
Can you wear the remote?
A shopper on Sep 2, 2015
BEST ANSWER: The remote has a velcro holder that allows it to be attached to the hose end of the vacuum. You use that same holder to attach it to your wrist. I simply put the remote in my pocket when using the vacuum with a power tool and turn it on before I start the tool. It would be nice if it had a clip to attach it to a pocket or an apron but it does not.
Will this work with the Rockler Dust Right Wall Mount Dust Collector?
Tim G on Sep 3, 2015
BEST ANSWER: This will turn-on any 120 volt machine as far as I can tell. I have it hooked up to a Fein vac that is hooked up to a Dust Deputy. The vac plugs into a device that is plugged into a120 volt outlet. The switch that turns on the device (therefor the vac) is on the end of the vac hose with the brush nozzle. A give this set up a 5 star rating. It is super handy when I'm sanding a whole stack of boards-just grab the vac hose and push the turn-on button when you want to vacuum away sawdust. I have another one on the hose that fits to the vacuuming port on my random orbital sander to turn on the vac each time I start up the sander. For the price this thing is great!
I bought this remote start. When I plug into it; it will start on its own. What is wrong?
Chuck on Mar 1, 2016
BEST ANSWER: Not sure Chuck. Is the orange remote pressed to on. Is the plug on the receiver plugged into the socket first. Other than that do not have any ideas. The remote signal might be stuck on sometimes there is a clear separate between the battery and the housing of the remote. If there is one remove that and see what happens. Bill
Can this remote be used outdoors if under a covered area??
Floyd F on Nov 21, 2015
BEST ANSWER: you can use any electric tool outside as long as it does not get wet or drenched wit rain.
If the switch stays dry and the vacuum or the tool you use gets wet it will shorten out.
We use it all the time everywhere and who works in rain anyhow.
Rain is, Take a break and get a beer or what you prefere to drink.
How do I know what channel my vacuum is?
A shopper on Jun 6, 2015
BEST ANSWER: Rockler does not list it, but FastCap offers this unit with channel 1 or channel 2. These are sold elsewhere. This allows one to control two different items in the same shop. I do not own these but it is likely if you open up each unit you will find a jumper that sets the channel.
Why does it have to be unplugged after use? The vacuum is in a hard to reach area, hence the remote.
Ken M on May 20, 2017
BEST ANSWER: Because other radio signals will turn on and off the unit, no matter the channel you bought. Poor design
Will this remote work through walls/ceiling? Want to put my dust collector in attic.
A shopper on Apr 12, 2015
BEST ANSWER: Yes it will. My shop (and my shop vacuum) are in my basement. I went up to the second floor and pushed the remote button; returning to the shop the vacuum was up and running. I love this gadget.
Bob Tiffany, MD
Will this transmit through a brick wall? I sit my vacuum outside of my shop.
A shopper on Sep 2, 2015
BEST ANSWER: I have a workshop of wood construction, wood panels outside, and sheetrocked interior. My unit is inside and I can go outside at least 10 ft from the building and still operate the vacuum with the remote switch.
Does this work with a 220 outlet or just with a 110 shop vac?
A shopper on Apr 12, 2015
BEST ANSWER: Only 110. My vacuum system is 110 and this works great I bough extra remotes so I could have one at each tool
I have a 10 amp utility vacuum. Will this handle the current? Even startup current?
Brian on Dec 3, 2017
BEST ANSWER: Very Iffy. The specs say to "Vacuum NOT to Exceed 10 amps." Check your startup current rating if they list it. The startup surge is brief, not continuous but may still damage the remote and void the warranty. Rockler doers have higher rated remotes to look at.
Can you buy additional remotes to use with ONE receiver? I would like to have a remote in different parts of the shop and on different hoses.
Bobsundance on Apr 15, 2016
BEST ANSWER: I do not know. You would need to as the company. I just put mine on my wrist so have it no matter where I am in the shop. Hope this helps.
Can you buy just the remote for attaching to other tools?
Allan E on Aug 10, 2015
BEST ANSWER: You can control any device on 120V that you want to control, Radio , Espresso maker for shop.
Vibrating Bed to relax after work and so on .
AnyThing that runs on 120.
Weuse it for the Vacuum and it safes us countless runns and makes a less noise work enviromen when the shop vac does not blast all the time.

What is the warranty for this product (Fastcap Remote Vacuum switch)?
Jim C on Jun 6, 2017
BEST ANSWER: I forget the warenty period. The problem I have is that the switch comes on on its own. I should have sent it back then.
What size battery does this take? I have lost my battery and do not have a replacement to find the size. Any help would be appreciated.
L R on Feb 21, 2016
BEST ANSWER: It is a 23A 12V battery. Looks like a short size AA. I would have thought Rockler would have been able to tell you this.
What is the maximum wattage rating on this? My dust collector is a 120V/20amp. It has a regular 15amp plug like this device.
