Freud® Traditional Beading Router Bits - 1/2" Shank

Item #
GRP18739
Rating:
100% of 100

This Freud beading bit makes quick work of routing both beaded moldings and beaded edges for larger cabinetry elements. With its integral guide bearing, there is no need to set the depth of cut with a fence. You can even use the bit without a router table at all. The taller section at the top of the carbide allows you to adjust the size of the upper shoulder, and you can adjust it flush if no shoulder is desired. A classic profile for cabinet work and architectural features, the bit is often used for restoration work in historic homes.

  • Forms a single bead with a square shoulder.
  • Commonly used by remodelers to match base moldings in historic homes.
  • Cuts all composition materials, plywoods, hardwoods, and softwoods.
  • Use on hand-held and table-mounted portable routers.

This bit did a great job. It is so sharp, I accidentally cut a piece of paper with it on my bench, AFTER I done all my routing jobs for my project.

How would this bit cut a centered bead like in the picture? From looking at the bit, it looks like the strip cut on the side far from the bearing would be much thicker than the strip cut close to the bearing?

BEST ANSWER: I think what you are looking for is actually called a bullnose (Rockler) or halfround (Freud) bits.

BEST ANSWER: I have several smaller Frued beading bits that do a great job, but this is larger than I have used so far.
