Does the entire bolt mechanism retract into the lock when in the unlocked position, so that nothing is left protruding?
J H on Jun 20, 2015
BEST ANSWER: WHen the lock mechanism is in the open position the surface is flush. These are easy to install but note that the key inserts off center from the center of your mortise. I have also had to file the inside of the bevel on the striker plate on occasion as the lock can be a snug fit and the lock can catch on the edge of the strike plate. This is just a "final fit" issue though - nothing unexpected.
What is the key holes length?

BEST ANSWER: Hi, It just happens I am installing one of these this week! The length of the keyhole is 1/2". It is 3/8" from the center of the barrel to the bottom. The center of the barrel hole is 5/8" down from the top of the box. The Key is 7/16" from top to bottom. These are good locks but remember that the key hole is offset from the center of the lock mechanism so if you want the keyhole in the center of a piece you will need to offset your mortise to allow for this. I have found that these are tight fitting locks and I normally will file the striker plate a bit more so there is no flat surface for the latch to pump up against when locking the box. This is a very minor adjustment and may not be necessary but it helps smooth out the process of locking the box in my opinion. I have had no failures with these locks.
