Works as intended
I drilled two game boards and still cutting strong. I recommend a light sanding afterwards because some woods "pine" will sometimes leave a random sliver every once and a while. Good product.

I used a 9/16 forstner bit...
I used a 9/16 forstner bit to drill template holes in a piece of 1/8" masonite. Drills clean holes. Will not work very well without using a template.

I used the plunge ball marble...
I used the plunge ball marble router bit to make seven marble game boards. This tool worked very well and made the job really easy. The service for this was great. This was the frist time I orderd anything on line, and it was easy. I was surprised to see a message in just a few minutes that you recieved my order and I had it in dust a few days. Thanks to everyone at Rockler.

Very handy tool
This is a very handy, easy to use tool. With a template, and drill press made making marble holes easy. Works great in harder wood. Soft wood like pine and spruce, tends to make rough dimples.
Also could be improved with some holes at top so that chips could be more easily blown out.
The best way Ive found, though, for making marble dimples for games.

Self Centering Bit
A self centering bit is the only way to go when installing hinges. I have two -- one sized for cabinet hardware and the other for door hinges. This particular product works well and I would recommend it.

I used this product to help...
I used this product to help me replicate a game that we used to play at my grandfather's house Chinese Pinball when we were kids. It works perfect with 1/2" marbles, or in this case 1/2" stainless steel ball bearings.I had to create a template to hold the bit as I "plunged" down at the marble locations. The size of this hole is actually best if you can drill it at 17/32", however, I only had a 9/16" so I went with that. Then I cleaned out the hole by doing it one more time without the template. You have to keep clearing it out, but it's really no different than working with a shelf pin bit.

I bought it to make some games and it works really well for making divets for the marble. I'm not sure how it'll hold up on harder wood but with pine it makes real clean divets.

Can the self-centering bit be used in a plunge router? I saw a youtube video of a "Jay" using a bit for marble holes in a router. Which is appropriate for that?
longhorn14 on May 4, 2016
BEST ANSWER: try Rockler #11708. It is a router bit for drilling marble divits
Do I understand that the self centering bit first enters a larger hole in the template,
then the bit can extend to drill the proper size hole in the wood product; that is, the
template hole is larger than the finish hole to accommodate bit extension?
