It does a goog job if you work slow to avoid overheating.
Working as expected. I bored a hole several inches deep into walnut without any problems. I took care to drill very slowly and stop often to let the bit stay cool, and it worked quite well.

2 7/8 Forstner bit
Used it to bore four holes through 5/8" thick red oak. Worked well but be sure to use a very slow speed on your drill press.

High Carbon Steel STD. Forster Bit
They arrived well packaged in reusable container for storage. They were sharp although I did hone with 1500 diamond hone. The bit cuts well and appears to hold the edge. Good buy fair price

Used the 2.75" Forster for recessing a cavity for a replica rally desk clock. The bit did a fine job but I'm glad I had a stout drill press...
Used the 2.75" Forster bit to make a recess for the face of a replica rally clock. Bit did great!

I'm impressed.
I was expecting to have to touch-up this bit before I used it, but it was ready to go out of the box (It's own little plastic case that is). Appears well made, performed well. What's not to like?

What is the length of the shank of the 3 1/8" bit?
John R on Jul 20, 2015
BEST ANSWER: 5 1/4"
Will the 2.75 inch bit drill a 4.25 inch deep hole, without an extender?
Heather B on Aug 7, 2017
BEST ANSWER: The set I have does not go to 2.75 in diameter. My set will drill a hole about 2-1/2 or maybe 2-3/4 in deep.
What is the length of the shank of the 2 3/8" bit?
