Irwin Quick-Grip® SL300 Clamps

Item #
GRP21256_1
Rating:
90% of 100

Since not every workpiece has perfectly even edges, the Quick-Grip SL300 adds a swivel jaw that conforms to angled surfaces and combats the inevitable flexing that occurs with resin clamps. It also features a quick-release push button that makes it easy to convert the clamp to a high-performance spreader. A heavy-duty I-Beam Bar allows you to apply up to 300 lbs. of clamping pressure with minimal bending and flexing. All these improvements come without any added weight, so the clamp retains its chief benefit: simple one-handed operation.

Features:
  • Quick-Release™ trigger provides fast positioning and maximum hand comfort
  • High-tech resin construction for light weight and durability
  • Heat-treated, black oxide carbon steel I-Beam Bar for extreme rigidity
  • No-mar resin jaw pads are removable
  • Swiveling jaw for angled workpieces

Good fast action clamp
Great where moderate pressure is needed. If you want ultra high clamping force, use a steel clamp.

Clamp Down on This!
In my clamp inventory I have some older Irwin clamps that have some woodworking miles on them. So I saw in a recent Rocker flyer I received in the mail offering an Irwin 12" clamp at a generous price reduction. Too good to pass up, so I bought two of them. Then, because of the fact I was so pleased with noticeable improvements and ease of use over my "aging" Irwin clamps, I bought two more! Bam!

Great clamp! Use it all the time.
I find Irwin clamps to be some of the sturdiest and most reliable. I've tried some knock-offs from the Chinese freight store but they don't last as long and you can tell they are much more cheaply made.

Love These Clamps
I have had a pair of these 12" clamps for over 10 years. These are the clamps I always grab even though I have Bessy and several other quality name clamps. these are fast and easy to use. I just wish they were cheaper.... I would buy more.

I love these clamps! I use them a lot and they are very versatile. Really easy to change from clamp to spreader and back.
I highly recommend these clamps for any medium clamping pressure job. The work really well!

Clamping jaws are now too bulky.
The QuickGrip Clamps I used to give a 5 star rating. But, since the clamping heads (jaws) was made to a bulkier size, I'm lucky to rate this clamp even a 4 star rating. The bulkier head on these clamps with the black pads, make these clamps somewhat useless on certain clamping procedures. Now I'm force to use F-clamps with a slimmer clamp head. causing longer glue-up times.

Nice Clamps
I've had these clamps in different sizes for years. Great clamps. The only complaint is sometimes the nut falls off that keeps the fixed piece on.

Why can't I get the quick release button to release so I can convert the clamp to spreader as advertised. The button says 'push' but the end does not release. Is there a secret?
george b on Feb 8, 2017
BEST ANSWER: On the head, you push the center off the head over to one side and slide off the head and rotate it, slide it back on and push the button back in place. The button on the head is also held together by two torx screws. try unscrewing the torx screws to see if something is obstructing it.
my end piece of the clamp broke do you have replacements?

Are these 24” clamps Medium duty or heavy duty?
Mark on Sep 2, 2019
BEST ANSWER: That depends on your definition of medium and heavy duty. I have used them for laminating materials, push holding framing and metal work together to preforming weather tight seals. I am very happy with the ones I own and used. Irwin is the only clamps i own, i have ~ 30 in various sizes. 24” is medium size clamp and I have 6 of them. There are limits to the pressure they apply, but i have not run into these situations.
Can you post the throat depth and clamping width for each clamp? Is the listed length the length of the bar, or the maximum distance between the pads? This should really be provided by Irwin or Rockler rather than a question. This would be key information to know before buying any clamp. Length doesn't really tell you much if you don't specify length of what.
Bill H on Dec 20, 2015
BEST ANSWER: The specified clamp size (e.g. 6", 12", 18", etc.) is the distance between pads at the largest possible opening. The throat depth, from the top of the metal bar to the center-line of the pivot point of the stationary pad, for all three of the mentioned clamp sizes, is approximately 2-1/4"
The advertising says it has a 300 lb capacity as a clamp. Does anyone know what the capacity is as a spreader?
MikeD on Nov 23, 2018
BEST ANSWER: In terms of bracing force, it seems just about the same
What are the dimensions of the shaft?
konner b on Jul 18, 2018
BEST ANSWER: Shaft measures 11/16" x 3/16" x listed length for the heavy duty clamp.
