Jet® 16'' Planer w/Open Stand
Jet® 16'' Planer w/Open Stand

The JWP-16OS planer quickly and quietly transforms rough lumber into smooth boards, with a full 16" planing width. Its heavy-duty cast iron and steel construction keeps the workpiece steady and supported, while the conveniently located two-speed gear box allows for quick and easy feed rate adjustments. This machine means business with a powerful 3 HP induction motor. A large cast-iron table with smooth-as-glass surface makes this planer a beautiful addition to the shop. And since planers kick up a lot of dust, we made dust collection easy with an exclusive angled 4" dust port to keep your hose out of the way.

Great planer
Great planer for the money. It definitely exceeded my expectations. Remarkably quiet considering it’s not a helical head.

Power and ease
After 3 bench top planers couldn't cut it, I decided to upgrade to this planner. If only done a few boards but the difference is amazing. This planer has the power to get the job done. Glad I went with the 220v. This planer can do the job !

Great so far
Assembly instructions are excellent. The best I've seen. Went together really well with the exception of adjusting the rollers. Can't get all three rollers even with the table. Takes at least 3 people to lift it onto the stand. Would much prefer solid steel infeed/outfeed extensions, thus 4 stars instead of 5. You will need to buy a 230V plug.

Why did you choose this?

I like the larger size for planning bigger boards and the open stand allows you to store items down below. Also it's all open a visible to see what your doing!

does cutter head move up and down for cutting thickness?
dennis w on Mar 2, 2016
BEST ANSWER: Oh yeah big time. Gauge is in 16th increments. i have been planing about 1000bf a year since 1990. got this planner couple years ago. should have done it years ago
Wil this open stand accept caster wheels...so it can become mobile, I will need to put it away/aside when it's not in use?
Clyde B on Dec 7, 2016
BEST ANSWER: Yes it can. Each leg foot has one hole for a caster. Due to the weight I have mine on a caster frame that each caster attaches with four bolts. Works extremely well!

Is there a problem with snipe?
Kenneth on Mar 5, 2018
BEST ANSWER: There is no such thing as a planer without some snipe. I carefully adjusted the in feed and out feed tables and you have to look closely to find the snipe now. Good machine! I am happy and would buy again.
Can you get the blades sharpened and put them back in? Do the blades come double sided?
Bruce L on Feb 1, 2018
BEST ANSWER: The blades are single sided. Yes you can get them sharpened and then put them back in.
Is it difficult to replace blades?
William on Aug 4, 2017
BEST ANSWER: I am in the process of changing mine. Run the cutter head all the way to the top to get the cover off. Loosen the nuts holding the blade in place. Be careful because the blade is spring loaded. Make sure you take the small springs out and blade retention bar before going to the next blade. A jig came with the machine to set the blades.
