Jet 718250K 2HP 8'' Jointer with Helical Head

Helical head features 36 replaceable, rotatable carbide insert cutters for better cut quality, longer life and less noise.
Item #
96% of 100

The Jet JWJ-8HH 8'' Helical Head jointer features 36 solid carbide inserts arranged in a staggered, spiral pattern to produce an exceptionally smooth finish, even in figured woods. Individual inserts can be easily rotated to expose a fresh edge if nicked, and all can be rotated together to refresh the entire head up to three times before replacement inserts are needed. The jointer has a powerful, smooth-running 2HP motor. Partly due to the helical head, it also runs very quietly. Generously dimensioned, precision-machined cast iron infeed and outfeed tables allow you to joint longer boards with far less risk of tipping.

  • Helical cutterhead with 36 solid carbide insert cutters provide a superior finish and quieter cut
  • Extended length infeed and outfeed tables accommodate longer materials with less tipping
  • Large, front-mounted chrome handwheels and easy-to-reach locks make for fast, simple table adjustments
  • Tall, rigid fence provides stable support and accurate angles
  • Tilting fence angles in both directions, and has positive stops at 45° and 90°
  • Dual-position magnetic controls protect the motor from potential electrical supply issues
  • Integral 4'' dust chute connects easily to your collection system
  • Fence adjustment levers are conveniently located in the center of the fence

Jet JWJ-8HH Jointer
Got free shipping and the driver brought it up my driveway and into my garage. After setup i gave it a test run and am very impressed. The outfeed table was perfectly aligned to the cutter (factory adjusted). The fence is twisted slightly but customer service at Jet is outstanding and we are getting that corrected. This is an impressive machine.

Woodworking Experience:
Nice machine
I haven't used it much yet, but will. So far I am very pleased. Set up was fairly easy, and I am ready to throw a lot of chips.

Buy the biggest and best... a helical head. You won't regret it. Minimal assembly and factory set ready to cut.

Woodworking Experience:
Excellent product.
Very impressive product. Well built to tight tolerances. Love the helical cutter head. No more swapping out expensive full blades every time I have a small nick in one like I currently have on my planer. Rockler said backordered at least 5 weeks, but it arrived in 2 weeks. The product came really well packaged in a wooden crate. You will need help unloading from the crate and placing the bed/fence on the base. I used my tractor bucket and a couple of slings, but a hoist or some strong friends would work as well.

Woodworking Experience:
Jet 8 inch Jointer with Helical head
Set up was straight forward. Took approximately 3 hours and that was taking it slow. Did have to adjust the belts a little to get the 1/2 inch recommended deflection which was not a big deal. Jointer was well aligned out of the box and only a few minor adjustments required to achieve 90 degrees on the fence. Have only run a few boards through it so far and the helical head does a great job...very smooth finish. Was a little more money than I had planned on but seems to be well worth it so far. Would highly recommend it to anyone in the market.

How is this model (JWJ-8HH) different from the JJ-8HH, which appears to no longer be offered by Jet. Is this model a replacement for that one? Does it have any improvements or upgrades from previous model?
Tom G on Jan 11, 2018
BEST ANSWER: From my understanding, the older model (JJ-8HH) has a smaller table length, measures somewhere around 66.5" to 67" and some cosmetic upgrades. The newer JWJ 8 inch models have a 72" table length and appear to have a more of a white finish than their traditional off white/ almost-beige color.. Another difference I noticed was the 2 older models, while having a shorter infeed and outfeed table by a couple inches are a little heavier then the 2 newer ones. It appears as though Jet was trying to shave off some of the weight (older 2 - 400 lbs/411 lbs VS newer 2 - 375 lbs/ 379 lbs), though your guess is as good as mine if it is to the benefit of the consumer or them as a company just trying to lower cost in production. After studying both manuals online, that was all I was really able to find out. Still went with the newer model- chances are those arent all the differences as companies are always tweaking things for the better (most of the time) as part of progress to get better models in the hands of us consumer folk..
Does it come with any kind of mobile base/casters? Or need to buy that separately?
Tom G on Jan 11, 2018
BEST ANSWER: You will need to purchase this separately.

Base should be capable of holding 600 lb.

Have fun
Does this require a 220v outlet?
keith h on Apr 16, 2017
BEST ANSWER: My manual clearly states on Page 11 that "the JWJ-8CS and JWJ-8HH (helical) jointers are rated at 230V, single phase only." It also shows a diagram (Figure 12) that shows a 230 plug and says "230 Volt only". I wired a 230 plug on mine and run it off my generator as I don't have a 230V circuit available in my garage.
what are the dimensions of the base? I have a mobile base from Rockler and would like to assemble it while waiting for the jointer to come in
Sheila T on Mar 11, 2018
BEST ANSWER: Sheila...the base is 17x24. There are dog ears on each end to allow for bolting to a base you need to account for (each protrude approx 1"). I made my mobile base opening 19 x 261/2 to accommodate and it worked fine. I also used 2 x 4's inside the base opening as added support. Hope this helps.
What happens if you connect a jointer that requires higher CFM dust collection than your current dust collector is able to provide?
