Love it.
Great drill press for the money. Rock solid on my base, sets up easy, snap to adjust once you get the hang of it. Should last a long time. I really like the digital readout as I'm used to changing belt drives, so much easier. Cool tool for wood or metal.

Great buy
Easy to use, easy to adjust speed well built tool, purchased two identical ones and extremely happy with them. Great bang for your buck, ordered over the phone expecting smaller drill presses for that price and pleasently surprised when I picked them up.

Good but noisy
Does a good job, it seems a little tall, don't know why the pillar is that long.
Very noisy when running, I find that I am using ear protection when using it.

Great Machine
I had a large floor model Jet drill press for many years and I loved it. It was always in my way in my small shop and I rarely changed the speed because it was cumbersome. This solved both issues. Very quiet and smooth. I really enjoy the digital readout for speed and how easy it is to adjust the speed up and down.

Drill press was easy to setup and is running great. I will say they laser cross is of little use when working with Forstner bits, it is also difficult to zero. I don’t use it and it wasn’t a reason for my purchase.

Did on-line research for an appropriate medium use bench drill press for a home shop, primarily for wood projects and received good feedback. Sale price was attractive in comparison to other makes/models.

What is the height dimension? Overall dimensions are not listed as far as I can tell.
Michael on Jul 14, 2017
BEST ANSWER: Overall height is 37". Perhaps also of interest, the height from bottom of base to bottom of chuck is 21.5" and base is 10" wide x 16" deep.

What are they referring to when they talk about a lift gate?
Rosie on Jun 29, 2016

what is the minimum diameter drill bit for the 5/8"chuck?
Scott D on May 13, 2017
BEST ANSWER: You can use a 1/16" bit or smaller if you have one.
The info for this new press says it has 1/2 HP motor, however the manual from the Jet website says it has a 1/3 HP motor like the old JDP-12. Can you confirm this is in fact 1/2 HP?
Mike S on Aug 7, 2016
BEST ANSWER: The motor nameplate says 1/2 hp. Sorry it took so long to respond - been out of town for the last few days.
Can anybody tell the difference between this Jet DP and the WEN 4214?

As far as I can tell, except for the colors, they are identical right down to all the knobs and even the chuck key holder.
GEORGE K on Jul 14, 2017
BEST ANSWER: The speed control handle is longer on the Jet. Doesn't sound like a big deal but the short handle on my Wen makes speed adjustment harder than it should be. As far as any run-out difference, I doubt it. Like the Wen, the lowest speed on the Jet is still too high for drilling larger holes in metals or for using larger Forstner bits on harder woods. That said, at the 530rpm speed, I used a router bit to bore a 1-5/8" hole thru 1/4" solid aluminum plate (scary job that I don't ever want to have to repeat). The chuck slipped slightly a few times but got the job done and it's (so far) stayed tight for other drilling. I'm very pleased and the Jet should be every bit as good or even better than the Wen, especially if Jet made some internal engineering changes of their own.
How deep a hole can I drill ?
Ron B on Feb 27, 2018
BEST ANSWER: The max distance from the spindle to the table is 17", in that space you will have your drill bit and the material you are drilling through. So it will depend on the length of your drill bit.
Are the RPM slow enough to drill 4 inch holes?
Hammerhead on Feb 1, 2018
BEST ANSWER: I have not had the opportunity to drill 4" holes. However, I have drilled 3" holes into 3/16" thick metal and the drill worked fine. I believe it's going to depend on what you're drilling into. It should work well on hardwoods also.

what are the recommended safety clearances?
tom f on Oct 26, 2017
BEST ANSWER: Hi tom, I'm not clear on what you mean by safety clearance's? I mean obviously you don't want to have loose clothing on or anything nearby that may get caught up in the operation of the machine while in use. Could you clarify? Dave
I forgot something on my first question so here is the revised question: Will this drill (JWDP-12) drill a 3 1/2 inch hole 3/4 inch deep in a variety of hardwoods USING A FORSTNER BIT? Does it have the power to do this over and over to make holes for clock inserts?
