Kreg Custom Pocket Hole Plug Cutter System

Conceal your pocket holes with a face-grain wooden plug cut from the same material—even the same boards—as your project. The result is a plug that blends seamlessly into the surface, allowing you to use pocket hole joinery in areas that would otherwise be clearly visible. To use, simply slip the Kreg Custom Pocket Hole Plug Cutter into a Kreg Jig® K3, K4 or K5 in place of the normal guide block. Install the supplied hollow-core Plug Cutting Bit in your drill and bore the holes as you would when drilling pocket holes. Once the plugs are drilled, cut them free with a band saw or hand saw. The Custom Pocket-Hole Plug Cutter also accepts optional bits that cut plugs to fit Kreg Micro-Pocket pocket holes (see Rockler Item #50477), or plugs to fit the larger HD plug size (see Rockler Item#58186).

Features:

  • Bit tip shears wood fibers cleanly to create a smooth, consistent plug
  • Fluting reduces heat and friction for better plugs and longer bit life
  • Open design ensures easy plug release
  • Stop collar ensures perfect depth for producing accurately sized plugs
  • Hardened-steel drill guides provide both accuracy and durability

Pocket Hole Jig
It's a great idea. I tried on some old wood, but did work to good. After I got some better wood and it works great. Can wait to use it on some the projects I have completed just to fill in the pockets.

As Promised...
I'm building a project from African Mahogany where I needed to plug some (Kreg) pocket screw holes and brick just wouldn't work. This product was recommended from my local Rockler store (Ontario, CA) so I ordered it and was able to try it for the first time last night. With my drill driver speed setting on high, and going slow, it works like a charm. I noted that speeding up the effort, or slowing the drill speed, the plug chips. Take your time and it'll work great!

I'm happy with the product though it took some effort on my part because it is NOT really compatible with my Kreg K2000.

Does what it's supposed to.
Does exactly what it says it does. It's a big benefit to have a bandsaw to cut the plugs loose but it isn't required, I used my miter saw and it worked ok, just rough ends.

Nice to be able to hide the screw holes on the face of a project.
After a little practice cutting the plugs, I really enjoyed being able to blend the pocket holes into the board. They are almost invisible. Not quite but amazingly good.

Works pretty much as advertised
Cut plugs for a cabinet that I am making. They work very well. The wood was poplar and the plugs blended in quite well.

If one doesn't have a holder - K3 - K4 - K5 jig can you, if you are very careful, use this without a jig? Sort of how the R3 is used.
JOSH H on Jan 26, 2017
BEST ANSWER: Josh,

Yes, I used the plug cutter and guide as they came from Rockler. I just clamped the guide with the Kreg vice grip clamp and it worked fine. The only problem I encountered was the quality of the plug because I tried to make plugs for use in white coated particle board from Home Depot and the cutter tore up the white finish. In regular hardwood the cutter works fine.

I would highly recommend the product (except in the coated product).

Will plug cutter work on a K2000 Kreg jig ?
Bill R on Jan 14, 2017
BEST ANSWER: Jim is correct, the jig would need a drill guide "sleeve" to be compatible; we didn't make the jigs with those until the K3.

Robert Y on Apr 26, 2017
BEST ANSWER: Thank you for your question. I'm sorry to say that you can not just buy the Jig. You will have to buy the Custom Pocket-Hole Plug Cutter(Model KPCS)

Thank You,

Will this work with prefinished wood that cannot be sanded?
Douglas on Jan 28, 2017
BEST ANSWER: In theory you could, but I believe you would probably end up with a significant percentage of unuseable plugs due to chips in the finish. If possible you might try borrowing one from a friend to see. To get a good plug as often as possible, you'll want a corded drill at maximum RPM's, and you'll want to penetrate the material with it as slowly as possible, especially on initial penetration; we generally recommend taking at least 8 seconds to go the full depth.

It looks like this guide block is not as wide as the 3 hole block in my k5 system. How does this guide block fit into my current k5 system?
Brandon S on Dec 30, 2016
BEST ANSWER: Brandon,

Yes, the Pocket Hole Plug Cutter will slide into the place of where your drill guide block is on your K5.
I use the Kreg Foreman hole driller primarily....will it work with that machine ?
Dwayne T on Jun 28, 2018
BEST ANSWER: Hello,
Yes, the plugs created by the cutter is compatible with the Foreman machine, but you will need either the K4 or K5 jig to place the plug cutter jig into in order to cut the plugs.
Thanks!
I want to make plugs using my Kreg system - so I ordered your plug cutting bit. When I watched a YouTube on how to use it, I found I need a special housing (guide). Do you sell that special guide by itself? Or, can I return this bit and order the bit with the guide?
Del D on Aug 29, 2017
BEST ANSWER: Hello. The Plug Cutting Jig is sold separately but it does come with a Standard Plug Cutting Bit. You can do whichever way you wish but it depends on the retailer you purchased it from. Thanks, Josh.
