Tips break off too easy
The tips don't hold up to being broken off when students drop them on the concrete floor... :)

works great
I was working on some really gnarly wood and broke my drill bit. The replacement arrived quickly and I now have a lovely table.

bought my first Kreg Step Drill Bit over ten years ago-it has been an invaluable accessory in making face frames and picture frames -so when I started to experience a few problems in using it I immediately ordered another one and problem solved-wonderful addition to any woodworking shop. Must Have
If you use the Kreg jig this is an absolute necessity. I have been using these jigs for over ten years and my original bit just wore out resulting in increasingly ragged entry holes. The new bit solved that and I'm back to doing a more 'professional' job.

My old one broke the tip off while I was using it on some oak. It's worked for year, so eventually it'd need replaced.

My last one broke by inserting it into the jig carelessly. Without the tip...it's pretty useless.<br />Other than that.....pockets holes make great connections in cabinetry...w/out doweling.

can the kreg bit be sharpened?
Arthur L on Jan 12, 2018
BEST ANSWER: I don't really know about that. I purchased another bit as a backup to the one that came in the Kreg kit. I had read a comment by a fella that had his bit roll off a table, landing on concrete and breaking the tip off. That pretty much rendered the drill bit useless. The bits are not inexpensive, but being without one would not be a good thing either. Cheers!, George B
