Laguna P|Flux 2hp HEPA Cyclone Dust Collector

Item #
57780
Rating:
86% of 100

The p|flux:2 offers ''smart'' technology, power and a HEPA filter that removes all but the very smallest dust particles. The horizontal chute maximizes airflow and improves the volume of air moved (measured in cubic feet per minute, or CFM), allowing the 2hp, 220v motor to deliver as much as 1,740 CFM. The HEPA filter removes 99.2% of particles down to .4 micron in size, and internal sensors trigger LED indicators when the 46-gal. drum is full and when the filter needs cleaning. Swing-away doors offer easy access to the filter, and the doors are lined with acoustic foam to reduce noise. The unit comes with a high-frequency remote control.

An ingenious lift system raises the drum into position, and a connector on the back of the drum automatically hooks up to a pipe in the cyclone to create low pressure in bottom of the drum; this holds down the plastic bag to prevent its being sucked up into the cone during use. If the p|flux is used without a bag, the system can be shut off. The drum lowers easily onto its wheels for emptying.

Excellent
Powerful dust collector. Takes a little time to put together, but not too difficult. Good installation instructions. Very quiet for a large cyclone unit. Remote control is a nice feature

Forget the manual/ Use the video that is on Laguna's site.
See attached images.
Emptied 2 containers of dust during February through April 2018. Decided to check HEPA collection and discharge. Almost no fines. Only dust came courtesy of a piece of paper towel that went though the impeller and dragged from coarse material with it,

Great Dust Collector
I was looking for a dust collector that did a great job with fine dust. After spending too much time maintaining a single-stage collector, I decided a cyclone might be worth the money. Having used it for a month now, I can say that this cyclone is definitely worth the money.

Good points: well packed, clear instructions, great suction, great separation of chips and dust, great fine dust collection, excellent remote control, indicators for filter cleaning and drum full, little maintenance required after a month of use (I've cleaned out the catch at the base of the filter once), portable.

Bad points: lots of assembly (it took me 6 or 8 hours, and you help tipping the unit up), attaching the filter was difficult (I used support boards and a hydraulic jack to ease it in place, this made it easy), more dust and chips get to the filter than with tall skinny cyclones (based on what I've read at least, but these cyclones are not portable).

This collector has exceeded my expectations, and I wouldn't hesitate to recommend it.

Product arrived on time through Rockler in a big heavy box. Be aware that it would not be advised to wrestle this container by yourself.

The collector is pretty much fully disassembled so be prepared for a reasonably frustrating day to put it together. I had two engineers working on it for 6 hours. The previous posts have said that the assembly instructions are lacking and I can confirm that as of last week they have not improved. A generous amount of head scratching and colorful language can be expected during the assembly so keep the children away.

The HEPA filter is difficult to install and took three of us. There is a nice clamping system on the bottom of the filter, why didn't they put the same on the top? I ended up with a handful of spare parts and a metal plate that we have no idea what it is for. Neither the instructions or the exploded diagram call the plate out.

Once together, the unit rolls very easily although mine will be permanently housed in the corner of the shop and hard plumbed in. There is no plug included with the machine so if you are not direct wiring this will involve a Lowe's run.

This is my first dust collection system so I cannot report on the suction or noise levels compared to other products. I will say that when running my table saw it does not add an appreciable level of noise.

The remote control is effective to 40 feet. I have not tried from further but that is sufficient for my needs.

The quick release garbage container is great. I had no dust leakage from around the seal, it connects and disconnects easily, and rolls without issue. When assembling cut all your gasket and seals longer than you think you will need and fit them.

I am very happy with the performance of the unit so far. Only time will tell if I stay that way. Would have been 5 stars but for the assembly process.

Lots of power, great access to changing out dust bag
It is a great machine; however, it does take about 6 hours to put together. The manual instructions are lacking but the youtube video is outstanding; however, the beginning of the video doesn't list all the tools needed to put it together. In addition, you will need cutter snaps, allen wrench and silicon sealer to complete the assembly. That said, all parts are clearly identified and the nuts and bolts for each step outlined in the online assembly video are packaged in separately clearly marked bags. After it is put together, it is an impressive machine. Although louder than I expected from watching the promo videos, it does the job and has great suction power, much better than the 2hp Tempest Cyclone I am replacing it with.

The description of their HEPA filter says it filters down to .4 microns at 99.4% effeciency. As I research US HEPA standards it says that HEPA certification is 99.97% down to .3 microns. How can it be catigorized as HEPA? Is the description on this site incorrect?
J D on Sep 13, 2016
BEST ANSWER: I wont get into the definition of what HEPA is, but I can attest to the fact that virtually no fines make it through the cyclone into the HEPA.
