Bone Linen Micarta Knife Scales

These knife scales are made from Linen Micarta, which is phenolic resin impregnated with layers of fine weave cotton cloth. The material is strong, stable and totally void-free, can be cut, shaped, drilled, machined and polished with ordinary tools, and takes a beautiful finish. Once shaped, the layers of cloth create a swirling pattern that resembles wood grain. It makes a truly first-class material for the handles of your handmade knife.

Not what I expected
Thank the stars I tried shaping a small section of this material before actually using it on my project. The shaped result was not anything like I wanted. The layers are a little too coarse to give me the effect I wanted. The material is fine but not what I wanted.

Presently orders 55508 is polishing good enough or do I need some type of finish coating?
John T on Feb 12, 2016
BEST ANSWER: That really depends on the type of finish you're looking for. People generally prefer knife handes not to be too slick or glossy. Polishing it on a wheel with tripoli should leave a good finish, but you can always go finer if you want to.
