Nice, good looking product
I had difficulty finding this product locally. Since I wasn't turning, I wanted some clear S4S maple stock. The items arrived quickly and as described. One piece had a rough spot, but that was okay. The pieces were easy to work with saw and router.

Nice Sugar Maple for turning
I ordered a blank with the idea of turning some tops and toys for gifts. It's what I was hoping for. This is Sugar maple. I read through some of the other reviews- be aware, the are marketed as turning blanks, with the idea that they will be turned between centers.

Mine had an edge or two that was a little rough, one end of one face was a little buggered. - it was all wood that will come off on the lathe.

If you are buying these as ready to go, dimensioned stock for a furniture project- think again.

It was good hard maple at a reasonable price, it turned well.

I've purchased these blanks before. They give me several pieces to turn. Seems a better value than the shorter blanks.

Are these blanks Rock Maple (Sugar Maple)? I am using them to make cigar box guitar necks so they must be hard.
Chuck on May 3, 2017
BEST ANSWER: I had the same question. Just got off the phone with Rockler: It's hard Maple.
I want to use these to cut veneer strips from, would the rough cut allow for this to be done, or would I have to prepare the pieces (plane them down, etc.) before this could be accomplished?

BEST ANSWER: While 'rough cut' the piece I got was pretty smooth with only a few checks/nicks in it. It wasn't like rough milled lumber and was closer to a finished board with some flaws.
Is the 2" nominal?
Chad L on Jun 12, 2017
BEST ANSWER: Yes, the size can vary a bit. If I remember they were about 1-7/8' to a side on one blank and 2" on another. I purchased what was available at the time.
