Countertop epoxy review
I am a contractor that does a few epoxy countertops (about 8-10 a year,)this is the first time using this product. I like the product very much BUT,it is super thick and sets up quick!tough to get spread out across the deck.even a small top really requires 2 people to stay ahead of it!.once down though, its a tough and durable epoxy! Colors mix decent too.

Can you put MAS epoxy over other epoxy?
Robert C on Mar 10, 2020
BEST ANSWER: Short Answer, YES, if properly cured. However you will need a bit of surface prep. All surfaces must be clean, dry and free of contamination. Contaminates include, but are not limited to dust, oil, moisture, sap, lint, and sanding debris. Do not use paper towels, dirty rags, contaminated sandpaper, or touch surface with oily fingers. Sand as needed and clean off sanding debris. Wipe surface down with a clean cotton t-shirt rag soaked in an oil free solvent like denatured alcohol prior to applying epoxy seal coat. Do not use tack cloth.
I have a 1 3/4” rainbow poplar tabletop I am using as A top for a kitchen island I am building. Is this finish food safe? Also, this looks like it will lock in the wood and alter its ability to move seasonally. Do I need to stain the top before epoxying and if not, should I use any kind of wood conditioner on the bottom to prevent drying which could lead to movement?
Sam on Apr 28, 2020
BEST ANSWER: The MAS Table top epoxy is food safe once it has cured. Since it will only be put on one surface of the top, the wood may still be able to move. You need to make sure the Poplar top is dried to around 7% moisture before putting on the epoxy so the wood will not have a lot of movement. You can stain the top prior to putting on the epoxy but make sure it is dry before the epoxy. Non need to put a wood conditioner on. MAS provides good instructions on how to apply for a table top. I have attached thes instructions for your use.

Is this product heat resistant/proof?
Steve H. D on Apr 28, 2020
BEST ANSWER: The heat deflection temperature (HDT) of MAS Table Top Pro is 124°F. They have also done extensive “hot coffee” cup testing up to 130°F on fully cured MAS Table Top Pro with no rings. As a general rule, anything that will burn you (hot pans, boiling water kettle, etc.) can potentially leave an impression on the surface. Best practice is to wait 5-7 days at room temperature for an epoxy surface to fully cure (develop it’s full mechanical and thermal properties) before putting it into service.
Is this recommended for outdoor use in regards to uv protection and moisture/temp changes?
MICHAEL P on Apr 29, 2020
BEST ANSWER: MAS Table Top Pro can be used for exterior projects and furniture, but like most consumer products, Table Top Pro is not UV stable. Generally speaking, epoxy resin tends to yellow and may chalk when exposed to direct sunlight for extended periods of time, which is why we recommend protecting epoxies with a UV protectant varnish or paint for outdoor use. Marine grade polyurethane varnishes like Bristol Finish UV Clear, with enhanced UV protection additives, offer improved UV stability and abrasion resistance over “off the shelf” spar varnishes available at your local hardware store.
Is this product water resistant when dry?
keith b on Apr 8, 2020
BEST ANSWER: I researched this and many more and my application is in a commercial dining room and I am still working on the tables. It does say that after the prescribed drying time it will not be affected by water glasses. I hope this helps. P
I have a kitchen table I am redoing and the top is going to be painted i was wondering if this would work being applied after the top is painted and dried? I am looking for something clear to protect the table top. Thanks
PAT P on Jun 8, 2020
BEST ANSWER: I would say "yes". I have applied this product to wooden veneer dining table that had some blisters due to water being left on the table. The thickness of this material covered the table with enough thickness to make the blister invisible!! I recently covered a 1000 piece puzzle that came out perfect!

My work shop temperature is 70 to 90 degree, Is it Ok to use with 20 degree difference? i am going to use on 43x53 Zebra wood table top, how much do I need to finish project ?. Seal coat and finish coat.
Jeong on May 8, 2020
BEST ANSWER: For best results, all materials and work space should be main-tained at 70°F-80°F. Epoxy is a temperature sensitive material. When cool, it’s thicker and sets slower. When warm, it’s thinner and sets faster. When the material or working conditions are below 70°F, MAS Table Top may become too viscous to properly release air and self level. Working in conditions or with material above 80°F, Table Top may set too quickly and become too hot and exotherm, which could cause it to yellow, distort or crack
Add 5 degrees (70 to 75) and add 10 min working time?
Gordon O on May 9, 2020
BEST ANSWER: For every 18°F the temperature falls below 77°F, the pot life will double for the mixture. The exact opposite will occur as temperatures increase above 77°F.

I have a patio table with a fiberglass top and imitation wood grain finish. It’s weathered and I would like to know if this product would work to seal it. how weatherproof is it?
Randy J on Jul 2, 2020
BEST ANSWER: It should work fine over the fiberglass as it can be used on virtually any surface. Make sure the fiberglass top is completely clean, grease/oil free and scuffed to promote the best adhesion between the MAS and the substrate.

Can I put this over a jigsaw puzzle ? Or do I have to treat the puzzle with something ?
Dan B on May 29, 2020
BEST ANSWER: It will depend on what the puzzle is made of. You could consider using MAS Penetrating Epoxy Sealer prior to the table top epoxy. Also make sure the puzzle is held down to a substrate as it will possibly want to float to the surface of the epoxy.

“Working time” 20 min. @ 70 deg., 30 min. @ 75 deg.” Hence my original question. Temperature up, working time up. Misprint or misread?
Gordon O on May 9, 2020
BEST ANSWER: At 75 degrees F Table Top Pro has a 30 minute working time. Warmer temperatures will reduce working time and cooler temperatures will increase working time. You might have come across a misprint. Sorry for the confusion. Also, product storage is key. If epoxy is stored in warm conditions above 75F it will reduce your working time and if epoxy is stored in cooler temps around 60F it will increase the working time. Ideal working temps are 70-75F.
