A great simple product
The microplane works great in many situations. I used it recently for a fibre glass repair on my daughters car. Also good for shaping foam when building surfboards.

Much more sophisticated and better than a Surform. Like having a fine and coarse blade.

Shaping chair pieces
I had a recommendation to use microplanes to shape pieces for a chair I was making. It worked better than I hoped.

Easy to use, very sharp, excellent surface finish
Purchased originally to trim down a door that was sticking. Used the coarse blade for that job, which took all of 5 minutes. No tearout, very controllable. Used this morning to round corners on a 3/4" birch plywood cutting table top. Smooth blade this time. Another 5 minute job. No tearout, which considering that I was working on plywood, was pretty amazing to me.

LIghtweight, very handy, very stable. Exceptionally sharp. Blade changes are very easy. A decent alternative to my Auriou cabinetmaker's rasp (which I love), at less than 1/4 the cost.

where are the replacement blades?
James K on Jun 12, 2016
BEST ANSWER: Rockler sells the microplane as a set. You get the handle, a coarse blade and a fine blade. Both are flat blades I've checked, and replacement blades, both flat and curved, are pretty readily available on line
what size are the blades?
Bill P on Oct 24, 2017
BEST ANSWER: 1” wide and 8” long
