Rockler Mixing Mate® Paint Lid, Quart Size - Stir, Pour, and Store!

Stir, pour, and store in an instant with one ingenious tool!
Item #
92% of 100

The Mixing Mate® Paint Lid makes mixing and pouring paints and finishes as easy and mess-free as pouring syrup from a restaurant-style dispenser. Forget the lid opener, stir stick, punching holes in the rim with a nail and hammer, paint pouring down the side of the can, and trying to bang the lid back onto a gummed up rim without deforming it. The Mixing Mate® Paint Lid eliminates all of these problems. Whether you're pouring paint into a tray, or stain and varnish into your paint gun, you'll appreciate the easy, drip-free action offered by the Mixing Mate®. Simply crank the handle, press the thumb lever and pour. No drips, no mess, no wasted finish. The auger-style mixing paddle lifts pigments from the bottom of the can, doing in seconds what would take minutes with a messy, wasteful stir stick. And when you're done, simply set the can back on the shelf for storage. Also available from Rockler, the Mixing Mate® Gallon Size Paint Lid.

  • Pistol grip handle makes pouring paint easy and ergonomic
  • Tool-free cam clamps securely anchor the Mixing Mate® Paint Lid to any standard quart size paint canister - simply twist to secure
  • Spring-loaded spout seals tightly after each pour - set it on the shelf and you're done until next time
  • Lid gasket ensures a tight, leak-proof seal to the paint or finishing can
  • The Mixing Mate® Paint Lid is constructed of non-metal components, making it completely compatible with water-borne finishes and latex paints, as well as solvent-based finishes
  • A few seconds of cranking the paddle mixes finishes much more thoroughly than minutes of mixing with a stir stick
  • Auger-shaped paddle lifts and mixes solids and pigments that have settled on the bottom of the canister for a more even-toned finish
  • If you want to switch the Mixing Mate® to a different can, the Mixing Mate's paddle, handle and lid separate for easy cleaning
  • Fits any standard one-quart can of paint, stain or varnish

PERFECT w/a CORDLESS DRILL for stirring chalk paint
Chalk paint is SO hard to stir...they tell you to shake it. When I used this I used a paint scraper to pull the chalky bits off the bottom of the can, put the Mixing Mate on AND ATTACHED MY CORDLESS DRILL. It came out smooth as melted butter and no mess. And since I make messes with ease that's saying something.

I love these. Take off the cover, put the mixing mate on and leave it on until the paint or stain is gone. I had this on a can of stain for over a year and it was perfec. Just crank to stir and your all set

Woodworking Experience:
Elegant and simple
This relatively simple idea has been perfected in concept and form. There is a thick seal around the base of lid which adheres firmly to the paint can top. Four twist locks fortify the seal and ensure that nothing (possibly even microscopic) shall breach that seal.

The trigger and spout is spring loaded ensuring that when disengaged the flow of paint or stain or shellac or urethane...ceases to flow immediately and cleanly.

Stored paint (over two years in my case) easily mixes with the agitator and provides perfection personified.

I lament that I never had the opportunity to purchase a portion, stock or invest in this product.

Everyone should purchase one of these for every can of paint you open.

Woodworking Experience:
Great for me, but
Works well with stains. Very convenient as I portion out and mix stains to match colors. Not so well with paint- primer dried up at the snout & made it a bit difficult to open.

Will these fit 1 litre paint cans (diameter is 99 mm = 3.89" so slightly smaller than a 1 qt can) or is it critical to have a super tight fit?
SarahT13 on Mar 28, 2018
Hi, I have a 1lr paint can and want to know if your quart size Mixing Mate will fit it? The diameter is approx. 100mm and the height of the can is 150mm. Thanks
Michael on Apr 14, 2015
BEST ANSWER: I don't have a 1 liter can here to check on, but the measurements of a 1 quart can are:
can outside diameter- 108mm
hole opening diameter- 80mm
can height- 124mm
the space between the lockdown tangs on the 1 qt dispenser is 50mm. Hope this helps the decision
Is it safe to use with petroleum based stains and varnishes?
Steve N on Nov 2, 2016
BEST ANSWER: Absolutely. I have used the quart and gallon Mix Mate with interior stain and Deck stain. Both were oil based. Works great and cleans up to new quality with soap[ and water. I bought mine to use primarily with oil stain. well worth the $!!!!!!!!
Can you use this product with POR15 rust paint? Would there be any issues with clogging after storage?
Por15 paint sets up really fast, in about 20 mins, and is expensive, looking for the best way to transfer and store air tight with little or no issues. Thx
A shopper on Aug 28, 2015
BEST ANSWER: I have not used this paint, however, some years ago I may have used a similar product and it does get sticky fast. I have used the mixing paint lid with oil based stain, oil based urethane and exterior latex paint. The lid works wonderfully and it is easy to clean up. Once clean, it looks new. If you read the instructions that come with the lid, they tell you not to use the lid for long term storage. That is a bit contrary to the Rockler statements on line. From experience, the paint or stain will dry on the pouring spout portion of the lid while you're painting and the pourer, in my opinion, should be wiped clean after every pour because the spout closure will stick shut as the paint or varnish dries. Having said that, I like the pouring lid very much as it is less messy and easier to clean than the top of the product paint can. From your description of the paint you intend to use, be prepared to spend extra time cleaning the spout, spout cover and exterior of the lid. By the way, if the paint you intend to use is anything like the paint that I have used in the past, I used it once and never again. It sets fast and it clogs brushed, sticks to rollers and bonds to the bucket or roller tray. You'll end up using these items once and then tossing them!
Is this OK with oil based paints? I notice it says 'solvent based'. Apart from latex.
Gary L on Dec 5, 2016
BEST ANSWER: Absolutely. I use my quart size with oil based wood stain. Works great. If you remove the mixing lid after you are finished with the job and put the can lid back on, the mixing lid cleans up with soap and water to like new. You need to get into the crevices on the lid with a paper towel, but with a little patience and care, you can clean the mixing lid to like new condition. This is valuable if you plan to use the mixing lid on another color of paint or stain. The main question I had before I used the lid was whether I'd be able to reuse the lid on a different color without altering the second color with the residue on the mixing lid from the first job. The mixing lid cleans up really well and I have had no trouble with color change on the second or third job.
Can I use this for lacquers?
Jason on Aug 24, 2019
BEST ANSWER: I have not used it for lacquers - sorry!

Is there a version of this product that fits wide-mouth, quart size Mason jars?

BEST ANSWER: Don't think so . . .quart and gallon lids are all I have seen
I'd like to usethis with contact cement and cannot use any solvent to clean this. Is this viable?
A shopper on Jun 2, 2015
BEST ANSWER: I have no idea. Guess the only way to find out if you could is to try it.
Are the mixing paddles made of silicone? It seems that would be the best material for them as paint and varnishes would peel off very easily if they dry on them!

Is this the same unit as sold on Amazon by Rockler as Mixing Mate 10-091?
Ralph R on Jun 12, 2018
Will the mixing paddles work when the bottom the can is not flat? Every can of stain I have has either a recessed outer rim or a slightly raised outer rim. When I stir there is always thicker stain settled in the recessed area that is hard to stir in.
