    Brilliant Midi Lathe
I love this Lathe. My wife has been looking for a hobby for some time and so she decided to turn wood. This Lathe was on offer and had enough features to tempt me into a purchase. I particularly like the electronic speed control but it does not exactly correlate to the figures in the book. Close enough as I understand that every lathe must be slightly different. Simple to set up right out of the box. You have to find the secret tool store yourself which is not mentioned in the instructions. My wife has already turned a few pens and I haven’t eaten now in 2 days!!! Definitely recommended.

    14DR is addicting
I have not used a lathe since the 1960's and my friends at Rockler convinced me that it's like riding a bike. Bought ther 14DR based on reputation (we used the Comet II in the Rockler class room for years) and the price. Yes it's addicting and makes glue drying time productive. It's quiet, smooth, and stable. It will last for years, my Grandson will enjoy it when I'm no longer using it. Great tool.

Good lathe at a good price
I like this mini lathe. I would have given it a five star except it’s a little light on power. However as long as you don’t get over aggressive it is fine. I love the variable speed and the digital readout so you can see just how fast you were turning.

    Nice looking but....
I purchased this lather to replace a Rikon 70-100 that was 8 years old. I wanted variable speed and reversible. I mounted the lathe on my lathe bench and started to turn a 13" diameter cherry platter. Interestingly I detected the speed reducing when making a simple pull cut. I continued to work, the speed would drop by 300-350 RPM. The motor doesn't have the torue to turn large diameter items. Even when sanding the speed would drop 200-250 RPM. Not convinced I made a push cut into the cherry and I was able to reduce the speed from 1300 rpm to 450 rpm. I returned the lathe.

    Response from Rockler
Thank you for the feedback on the lathe. I'm also a turner but have not tried this lathe out. Once I am back in the store (not in at the moment due to the covid-19 thing) I will try out the lathe. I know it's a lot more expensive but I have the Laguna 18/36 and couldn't be more pleased. Keep turning and stay well.

Not worth the money. There are better lathe's for less money. Wish I had went that way.
I have had this lathe for four weeks. Turned three bowls on it. Now the switch won't change the speed. Runs wide open. Won't switch in reverse ether. Now it's a two speed with no reverse.

    Why did you choose this?
    Rockler Store
Because I currently turn on the Nova Comet II lathe and I have had very good luck with it. TaknaTool produces quality equipment and their customer service is outstanding as well.

Does the bed extension for the nova comet ii fit the nova comet 14dr?
    Butch R on Feb 2, 2020

I’m assuming the G3 accessories fit the Nova Comet 2?
    Sterling L on May 4, 2020
BEST ANSWER: Correct. The Nova Comet 2 has a 1" x 8TPI head stock thread and standard No. 2 morse tapers on both the head and tail stocks. The G3 chuck would be a great choice for this lathe. Also I find a drill chuck a great addition, especially for drilling pen blanks etc.
