Nova SuperNova 2 Insert Chuck
The SuperNova 2 is a solid, powerful chuck, perfect for use on lathes with up to a 20" swing. It's an excellent, all-purpose geared chuck, suitable for a majority of users, and is packed with exciting, innovative features such as a fully sealed composite indexing backing plate and copper - infused jaw slides. I don't have a lot of chuck experience to give a comparison of this chuck, but I can't imagine anything easier or better. It clamps securely, recenters perfectly if you need to unchuck the piece, and with the wide range of openings, it is very forgiving.

My son (borrowed) my first Nova 2!
I got the urge to turn a bowl and looked for my chucks. Discovered that all my chucks had migrated to my son's shop. This one was at a better price then what I paid years ago. Thought they must have cheapened it at this SALE price. I was happily relieved after receiving it. Same good quality chuck that I've enjoyed for many years.

The nova chuck has one hand adjustments and frees the other hand up for proper alignment. It is built sturdy and user friendly.
Alice l. D on Dec 23, 2015
I have one of these already and would like to dedicate the second for a set of cole jaws to do basket rim turning.

This is a similar chuck in design and quality to the metal machining chucks that I am used to as a machinist.

I have a Jet 1221 lathe. Will this work and what adapter do I need?
Paul P on Apr 12, 2017
BEST ANSWER: Yes it will work, get a Nova 1x8 adapter.
I purchased the super nova chuck. This is the first time I have used this type of chuck, so what adapter will I need to purchase to fit my Rigid wood lathe? Thanks for your help.
Tony H on Feb 23, 2016
Will this chuck work on the excelsior mini lathe? If so, what special instructions, if any, need to considered?
George B on Feb 5, 2016
BEST ANSWER: Works great. Make sure to get the right adaptor, which screws into the chuck and over the lathe spindle. I use it to turn the lathe into a drill using a drill chuck where the tail stock live center would go.
Will this chuck fit my excelsior mini lathe?
Marty F on May 30, 2017
BEST ANSWER: This will fit on the Excelsior lathe with the correct insert. However, it is a heavy chuck and you might think about the G3 series. They are a bit smaller and will put less strain on your lathe.
The G3 reversible is already threaded for the Excelsior and the G3 insert will need an insert
I have a powermatic 90 with a 1 1/2 x 8 tpi. Will this fit my lathe?

Will this work on jet1642evs?
Jerry W on Mar 5, 2018
Did this chuck work on general lathe ?
Bruno F on Dec 18, 2016
BEST ANSWER: Not knowing which model you are asking about, all I can say is that if your lathe has a threaded headstock all that would be necessary would be the SN2 & the appropriate insert, e.g., if the headstock is 1"-8tpi get the 1-8 insert, if 1 1/4 -8, get the 1 1/4-8 insert etc.
Can I fit this chuck on my Shopsmith?
Pat P on Oct 14, 2016
BEST ANSWER: I do not have any ShopSmith equipment therefore I am not sure what thread Shopsmith uses on your spindle nose. But that is the key question that must be determined.

Look up the specification sheet for your model shopsmith to see if they use a standard Acme thread such as 1" x 8. That refers to a thread O.D. of one inch with eight threads in on inch of length. Then locate a matching Nova Chuck thread on Rocker. Rocker also sells Acme thread adapters.

is this super nova 2 1-1/4" x 8 tpi ?
Ray M on Jan 29, 2016
BEST ANSWER: I gave you the wrong answer yesterday. The chuck is 1-1/4 and I had to buy a bushing to make it 1". Sorry for the mistake.
Is this a 4" chuck or 5" across. ?
Ronny on Mar 5, 2018
BEST ANSWER: The body of the chuck is around 4" across.
I have a Central Machine 12in x 36 Lathe what chuck would match up i am looking at Nova super 2---- what else will I need to turn pens and bowls ???---Thank you for your help
Billy on Oct 18, 2017
BEST ANSWER: Billy, The chuck will help with making bowls, but not with pen making. If you want to make pens, you'll need a pen mandrel (I use a mandrel that works with 7 mm pen tubes), bushings, and a tail pen unit which allows the 1/4 "rod of the mandrel to slide inside the tailstock.
will this chuck work on a lathe with reverse?
steven j on Sep 28, 2017
BEST ANSWER: Yes with a double threaded insert
I have a 1 1/4 shaft on an Oliver lathe. 8 tpi is this a fit or do I need some adapter?
Richard D on Dec 19, 2016
BEST ANSWER: Looks like you need the adaptor, the threads in the chuck are larger.
Hope that helps
I just made an order on the Delta 46-460 and want to know will this chuck fit? If not what adapter?
Dennis A on Nov 11, 2017
BEST ANSWER: In this question about the insert, you don't mention if you are using the super nova 2 (SN2) chuck nor do you mention the size of the insert. The Delta midi lathe has a 1" x 8tpi headstock. There is a "Delta" version of the nova chuck that is "only" 1 x 8, but I'm not sure R* carries it. I know I've seen it online @A*z*n though. If the chuck you are looking at is a SN2 then an insert is required (for the delta use the 1x8). Hope this helps!
If I purchase a Super Nova 2 and a set of Pen Jaws will they hold a 7mm Mandrel to turn the pen after I have made the blank ready in the chuck ???? Thanks for your time
Billy on Oct 18, 2017
BEST ANSWER: No, the Super Nova with the pen jaws will allow you to drill the blank out on the lathe.
The mandrel will have a #1 or #2 morse taper that will slip into the hole in the head stock spindle on your lather. You will not have the chuck on the lathe when you use the mandrel.
I have a 1.5 inch 10TPI spindle.Will this chuck fit my spindle?
Marshall T on Sep 10, 2017
BEST ANSWER: Marshall, My spindle has a different TPI and I'm not sure the Nova SuperNova 2 chuck you're considering will fit your lathe. You might have to ask another source to get more information. Dustin
How do you set it up for use?
Albert d on Jun 9, 2017
BEST ANSWER: First thing you will need to do with this is get an adapter that fits your lathe. That is the threaded portion on the headstock. The most common is 1"-8TPI and 1-1/4"-8TPI. You will need to check your manual for the spindle size.
