Oak Chair Brace
I'm restoring a 1940's wood highchair and one of the original braces grew legs and disappeared. These are larger than the original ones and didn't quite fit correctly BUT, with a hand plane and a little sanding I was able to shape them to fit correctly. I knew that these were universal so was prepared to have to do a little modifying to make them fit. Had both fitted and installed in less than 30 minutes. Great product.

Good product
The only suggestion I wanted to make if at all possible have the manufacture round the ends instead have pointed ends.

Oak Chair Braces
Perfect! I was in the process of trying to make my own braces and was having great difficulty. When I saw them in the Rockler catalog I quickly ordered a pair. They worked perfectly and I will use them on future repair jobs.

Did what they're supposed to
Got them, polyed them, installed them. The chair is more rigid than when it had the broken ones.

Like others, I needed a brace...
Like others, I needed a brace replacement when the original brace cracked under pressure from a stout dinner guest. The replacement brace was slightly more pointed than depicted in the photo. Very minor issue as I rounded it by sanding to conform to the original. Also, the curve of the brace was not quite the same as the original. Again, a minor issue as I wiggled the replacement brace around to where it met seat and chair spindle well enough. After staining to match, the replacement is virtually the same as the original. I upgraded the screw mounting on chair spindle side to increase the structural integrity of the whole assembly. For the bottom, I bolted it. That should hold it for a while!I'd like to see original manufacturers do the same. This is a very common manufacturing defect on these style chairs.

Need them
Theresa C on Jul 11, 2018
The first pair I bought split immediately upon screwing one of them into the chair. I really need only one of them. A friend suggested that the screw, with a rounded, domed head, was the issue. Maybe so?
Yes, it has been a while since I ordered the first ones, but the chair is a family heirloom. It is not being used until I manage to get it cross country to my niece. I appreciate that I can still get the item from Rockler.
Thanks,
Jill

Can I buy just one?
Russ R on Oct 31, 2017
BEST ANSWER: I don't think so. However, they will keep. If one breaks on one chair, another one on one of your chairs is surely going to break later. Just store the extra in your shop. I have a chair and extra brace out in my shop right now, waiting for me to get round-to-it.,
What size are these oak braces?
Kay M on Oct 25, 2017
BEST ANSWER: Approximately .75 inch wide by 6 inches long. I used them to replace two broken pieces on an old chair. They appear to be standard replacements.Enter
What size screw is used?
Tim C on Nov 27, 2017
BEST ANSWER: Depends on the dia of the backrest dia.
