Woodworking Experience:
Best Router
I use this router in a production environment. In fact, I have several of these. We run them 40 hours a week. Once the carbon brushes are worn out, all you have to do is replace them, and you're up and running again. I would give it more stars if that was an option.

Woodworking Experience:
Easy installation into a ProLift assembly.
I have been using Porter Cable routers for over 30 years. Both are model 690 series and run the same today they did when purchased. I trust them. The ProLift is designed around 4.2 inch motor housings with heavy castings ... A perfect fit.

Perfect Fit for my Router Insert
Perfect Fit for my Router Insert - Uses 1/4" & 1/2" Collets so I can use many bits - Also the variable speed function allows me to use Large bits for Raised panel routing - these large bits NEED the slower speed available with this motor

Power and it doesn't have any handles as I am creating a router lift to install on my table saw extension
Michael R on Apr 30, 2018
Because its motor diameter is 4.2" which should fit my Jet Router Table lift without shimming. Also because of it's HP and lack of need for a base.

Already have one installed on my router table. They wear out, so will replace my old and keep as a spare. The cost to rebuild them is not worth it and then only with limited renewed life, based on my experience.

This is the only motor that fits on my CNC machine. I currently have the 7518 which is great - but it's non-adjustable @ 21,000rpm...which is pretty ridiculous when your cutting MDF.

This is a powerful router motor. It can be ordered without the base saving money. It has good reviews as one of the best in its range. It has some poor reviews of late relative to reliability but is still highly rated.

Will the 7518 work with the Rockler Router Lift FX ?
Jason S on Sep 20, 2015
BEST ANSWER: No, the motor is too large. I bought a Rocker router table that included the FX lift. Wanted this motor so that my plunge router would be usable and for the extra power. However, the motor was too large for my lift, so I had to buy the Incra Mast-R-Lift II Designed for Rockler Tables.
I can't separate my 75182 router from it';s 75361 base. They rotate but seem to be locked by a stop. What should I do to get them apart?
John K on Jan 19, 2017
can you use a 1/4" shank bit or can you only use 1/2" shank bits?
Bruce W on May 21, 2015
BEST ANSWER: You can use an adapter or you can use separate collets, one for 1/4 bit and another for 1/2 bits. I prefer the second as adapters sometimes come loose or break off when running.
Does it come with the collet?
A shopper on Apr 24, 2015
BEST ANSWER: Yes, it comes with 1 collet 1/2". Also comes with 2 wrenches
I have heard that the PC 7518 has dropped considerably in quality. Number one complaint seems to be bad bearings, the lower bearing near the collet gets very hot and breaks down prematurely. This overheating has also lead to motor burn out I have heard that several vendors no longer carry the router because of all the returns. Is any of this true, all of what I have heard is from the internet in the course of shopping. I donot intend to use this router in a CNC unit which runs constantly, but in a less demanding duty cycle mode?
Thank you
Robert R on Jan 29, 2016
BEST ANSWER: I have been a clerk for Rockler for 20 years and I am not aware of a 7518 being returned. My 7518 is used in my router table without any problems. After I finish a run, I raise the motor up and vacuum any dust that may have collected on it. probable cause of bearing failure may be forcing the router thru a cut causing undo pressure on the bearings. Always let the tools do the work.
does this include the power cable?
A shopper on Jun 18, 2015
BEST ANSWER: Absolutely, it comes with a power cable installed. It includes everything you need to get it up and running. Best router on the market right now! Get one, you won't regret it!
I am beginning to notice a hesitation when I turn the machine on. Is this leading up to a problem with my 75182 router?
Don w on May 9, 2016
BEST ANSWER: This "hesitation" you mention did happen to my router just prior to breaking down. The router ran on my CNC for 5 years with no problems before this. I ran it for about 3 weeks after it started hesitating and I noticed bits lost their sharpness very quickly. It finally quit running and it is now being rebuilt. I bought a new one and will keep the rebuilt one as backup. I suggest to have yours checked up at a repair center.
Is there a external speed control available for this router?
Bob D on Nov 26, 2015
BEST ANSWER: No. The manufacturer does not recommend another variable in addition to the configured in the motor already. That's not saying you couldn't try to buy pass the one built in and then add a external one; its your motor. However take less than a minute to reach under the table and change speeds.
Good luck
does this router come ready to put in a router lift, Cord, collets, wrench, included?
Sid P on Sep 13, 2018
BEST ANSWER: yes everything you need
Is this motor corded and does it come with a collet?
Raymond L on Jul 18, 2018
BEST ANSWER: Yes on both questions, but mine was included in a kit with a computerized lift assembly. I believe you can check other answers on the collect. They all seem to agree on it being included with motor only.
Will this fit in a JessEM II router lift?
Stan S on Jul 19, 2018
BEST ANSWER: I have it in a Mast R II lift, but I don’t think it works in the Rout R lift II. I would contact JessEM to be sure.
will a 690 collet fit the 7518 and are the provided collet wrenches offset?
loren s on Nov 18, 2016
BEST ANSWER: Not sure about the collet, but no offset on the wrenches.
What is the diameter of motor?
A shopper on Apr 15, 2015
BEST ANSWER: 4.2" diameter
I will use the motor in a lift. What is the motor diameter?
Dale M on Oct 31, 2017
How do you know what rpm to run with different bits?
Robert W on Oct 27, 2017
BEST ANSWER: Google it. One of the wood working mags had a chart I saw a while ago. Other than that, guess and proceed slowly till you know it's working well.
will the 7518 fit in the same lift I have for my 690 ?
Jeff A on Feb 7, 2017
BEST ANSWER: The 6990 and 890 series routers are 3.5" in diameter. The 7518 is 4.2" in diameter.
How many amps does this motor draw?
Richard B on Sep 1, 2016
BEST ANSWER: If one would use the formula of 741 watts per HP times 3.25 equals 2408 watts. Then divide by 120 volts you would come up with 20 amps. However, those horsepower numbers on routers, vacuum cleaners and air compressors are marketing numbers. I have mine on a 15 amp circuit. If you check the cord its 16 gauge a little light for 20 amps.
Will this fit in the bench dog 40-150 router lift?
Richard B on Aug 26, 2016

will this fit the pc 690 bases?
jay l on Oct 31, 2015
BEST ANSWER: no, this is a 4.2" diameter. PC 690 is 3.5" diameter.
does it come in 240 v?

BEST ANSWER: Sorry no, we do not have a 240 volt version of this to offer.
