The Porter-Cable Restorer boasts many of the benefits of both a belt sander and an angle grinder. When compared to a belt sander, it is lighter, easier to handle, and more versatile, thanks to the wide variety of accessories. Weighing in at just 4.5 lbs, the Restorer is less than half the weight of most belt sanders. It is also much more compact for maneuvering in tight areas. The barrel-shaped roller quickly flings debris away from the surface, which decreases heat build-up and clogged abrasives. When compared to an angle grinder, the Restorer yields a much smoother finish, particularly on wood, where the flat roller helps prevent gouging and the abrasive can be aligned with the grain. The tool is well-balanced, with a pistol grip for one-handed use, and a front palm grip for working vertically or overhead.

Features:

  • Use to buff, sand, grind, polish, scrub or clean wood, metal, masonry and fiberglass
  • Accepts a wide range of quick-change roller sleeves and wheels for use on metal, wood, cement, and more
  • Connect a vacuum to the dust port to collect debris during use
  • Easy accessory changes with the quick-release end cover
  • Lock-on button decreases fatigue during long sanding sessions
  • Powerful 3.5 amp variable-speed motor

Restorer is an understatement!!
I purchased this tool to restore parts of my deck where the paint has peeled repeatedly. Using the tool helped me to remove the finish withion seconds. I have never found a tool like this that is so effective in what it does in restoring the surface of metal and wood. Unbelieveably fast!

Can I use the paint and rust drum to remove all paint and surface rust from a 1956 Studebaker, mostly cracked paint?

BEST ANSWER: I have used the restorer on metal railing in a school stairwell. It takes the paint of several layers down to the metal. Also, I've used the unit on cleaning up old oak barn wood. It cleaned it well...very dirty...and did not damage the integrity of the wood. Of course, I changed the wheel implement. So, trial and error should prevail for you to get your results. I've used it in 2 different applications. Both turned out very nice. The wheel isn't so aggressive you'll tear up your material, but it does the work without days of agony. Charley
Does it have a wire drum attachment or will it soon?

BEST ANSWER: Not that we are aware of.
you only offer a 60 80 and 120 grit. the article says you can polish with it. I have called a number of sources looking for a 240 even a 400 grit. does it exist?
