Porter-Cable Restorer with 9-Piece Accessory Kit and Tool Bag

Includes a range of accessories to sand, grind, clean, buff and polish wood, metal and masonry.

The Porter-Cable Restorer boasts many of the benefits of both a belt sander and an angle grinder. When compared to a belt sander, it is lighter, easier to handle, and more versatile, thanks to the wide variety of accessories. Weighing in at just 4.5 lbs, the Restorer is less than half the weight of most belt sanders. It is also much more compact for maneuvering in tight areas. The barrel-shaped roller quickly flings debris away from the surface, which decreases heat build-up and clogged abrasives. When compared to an angle grinder, the Restorer yields a much smoother finish, particularly on wood, where the flat roller helps prevent gouging and the abrasive can be aligned with the grain. The tool is well-balanced, with a pistol grip for one-handed use, and a front palm grip for working vertically or overhead. The Restorer Kit includes 8 abrasive sleeves, a paint/rust remover wheel and a nylon carrying bag.

Features:

  • Use to buff, sand, grind, polish, scrub or clean wood, metal, masonry and fiberglass
  • Works on nearly any type of surface, flat or curved, wet or dry
  • Accepts a wide range of quick-change roller sleeves and wheels for use on metal, wood, cement, and more
  • Connect a vacuum to the dust port to collect debris during use
  • Easy accessory changes with the quick-release end cover
  • Lock-on button decreases fatigue during long sanding sessions
  • Powerful 3.5 amp variable-speed motor

So good at removing paint
Really glad I had this unit to remove old paint from cabinet doors before applying new paint. This task just can't be done with a belt sander or chemical solution. With this unit the paint just comes right off with in no time with the paint remover wheel.

Porter Cable Restorer
This tool is perfect for the "aging" of either new or weathered existing wood . I have created a weathered table top for my daughter's patio table. She loves the look and feel of the aged cedar top.

Stripped paint of over 300 feet of metal railing.
Works great! This was a huge time saver for stripping old paint off a metal railing. I also used it to quickly sand down and shape some curved wood arches I was making for a porch project.

This is what I believe will be the best tool to do some antiquing on some old cedar tongue and groove wall board.

Probably best to have all the attachments. Needed bag for organization.

In my experience Porter-Cable products are generally of good quality and provide excellent results. I have a Porter-Cable circular saw and I like it a lot. I am hoping these two products will work just as well.

What are the dimensions of the bag? Is it large enough to hold the restorer and all accessories shown? Can the restorer fit in the bag vertically surrounded by the sanding sleeve boxes? It is recommended the restorer not be stored with the wheel facing down to avoid flatting the wheel.
A T B on Nov 10, 2019
BEST ANSWER: Bag is 14" x 8" x 11' (approx) I have the unit, 3 boxes of sleeves and a large screwdriver, (for changing sleeves) in it with room to spare. I lay sander on its back. It fits on end if you slant it a little but I don't see the need to do that.
Is this a good tool to strip a hard wood floor?
Tom K on Dec 28, 2018
BEST ANSWER: Tom,
I purchased the porter cable restorer to strip paint on the side of my barn. I was not happy with the results but it was hard to put very much pressure on the siding from a ladder. If you are refinishing your floor you can put a lot of downward pressure on the tool. I think it would work fine for you as long as the floor doesn't have to many coats of finish on it. I just resurfaced my hardwood floor and sanded it with a porter cable palm sander. I used Varathane no odor satin floor finish for high traffic areas. Polyurethane, it gets harder with age. The stuff is great.
Good luck,
