Porter-Cable router
I use this router in my router table and never have any problem with standard bits or the large panel bits. Have the ability to adjust the speed is an excellent feature.

Incredible Router
I've used other 3 1/2 hp routers for years. I finally got the boss of table mounted routers. Wish I had done it years ago. It is smooth, powerful, and accurate.

Does it all
I burnt up my 2 hp router and decided to upgrade to this and the Pro table with an incra lift. The router is a bit heavy to use manually so the lift is a great option. Now you don't have to go under the table to move the bit height. Now i can cut anything from small trim pieces to large 1-5/8" lumber for making house doors. Overall one of the best routers I have ever used.

Pro-grade, Work Horse PC 7518 Router
Dependable and powerful. I've used this router model for twenty years and I've been delighted that PC has stood by it with very few 'improvements.' This router does a few things really well -like eat hardwood plough-dadoes for lunch and deliver crisp raised panel parts when you don't have the budget or space for a nice Shaper. This Router is best used in a router table, stiil available as a motor-only for that reason but the robust and simple standard base is worth the few extra bucks on the occasion for hand-held work where the machine's added mass is advantageous. The design is simple and accumulates less dust and chips, which results in longer service life (I just purchased a replacement for my 20-yr-old)

I use the P.C 690 in my Rockler table, and it does a good job, but want to free that one up for hand held, so I'm buying the 7518 because it has more power, and the promo is excellent.

I have the old model and have been using it for about 25 years. Still works great but the $100 gift card pushed me into getting the upgraded model. My old on will be the spare.

Based on General International research, The Porter Cable model 7518 router with its horse power and size to fit works best with there lift model 40-125 that came with the router table model 40-200 cast iron top 24 x 32. Made by Excalibur By General International Co. Rockler had a good price.

What is the overall height of the router? I have a custome router table. I have used a couple of 2 1/4 hp routers that fit. I would like to know if the router will bit into my table before buying.
Darrel S on May 18, 2017
BEST ANSWER: The router plus the chuck has an total height of a little over 11 inches. I hope this measurement is helpful. Please let me know if I can be of further assistance. The router has performed flawlessly. I have been very pleased.
What is the diameter of the motor housing?
George M on Nov 11, 2016
BEST ANSWER: Using a micrometer, approximately 4 13/64.
I'm using the
1" D x 1-3/4" H x 1/2" Shank Rockler Pattern Flush Trim Bit
Item #: 37348 to pattern shape two pieces of 3/4" thick Marine plywood that will be laminated together to build an inflatable boat transom. Which router would be the best choice for this bit and job? I plan to cut the 1.5" thick transom plug about 1/4" proud of the transom template on all sides so the bit will be trimming about 1/4 of stock 1.5" thick. The transom plug is of such size, shape and weight I figured it would be best to clamp it to the work table and hand hold the router. two concerns are that I want a router powerful enough to do the job without bogging down and rippling the edge yet I want a router that's not to big that I can't control it with two hands. I'm looking at the Porter 690LR or the Porter 7918, is the Porter 7918 to large and powerful to hold two handed? on bench clamped stock? Is there a better choice than one of these routers?

BEST ANSWER: I have the 3 1/4 router and I love it It has 5 speeds just take small passes and take your time I think you will get better uses with this router down the road
Can the depth be adjusted from above a table?
Gregory L on Sep 21, 2015
BEST ANSWER: It takes a router lift to adjust most heavy duty routers from above the table. I have my 7518 -- a wonderful workhorse -- mounted in an Excalibur 40-d125 lift mounted on an Excalibur 40-200c table. A crank fits into an opening on the top of the table to adjust the height. With my set-up, which uses a chain drive to raise and lower the router, the height will remain the same through many passes through the router. I am sure that other set-ups would work well too.

Is there a plunge base that can be added to this?
A shopper on Aug 28, 2015
BEST ANSWER: I am not sure if there is a plunge base for this. I am using it in a stationary table with a router lift and only am using the motor and not the handles. It is a very powerful router and a bit heavy for continuous handheld use.
Great router though.
is a carrying case available for the porter-cable 7518 router? ( your item # 43786 )
Joe E B on Apr 1, 2018
BEST ANSWER: No, athere is no carrying case with this router. This size router is generally seen as the router to be mounted in a router tablet. It is very large, heavy and powerful. I would not recommend using this hand held.
what guide do you use for a porter cable 7518 router?
Robert B on Nov 17, 2018
BEST ANSWER: I actually bought mine to use on the bench dog cast iron router table and lift. But if I was going to get a guide I would get the porter-cable micro adjusting edge guide.
Will this router work with a variable speed control? I hate having to reach under table to adjust but I've read that soft start and variable speed routers won't work with external speed controllers. Has any tried one with this unit?
John S on Nov 4, 2016
BEST ANSWER: This router will not work with a variable speed control. That's why they have 5 speeds.
I own the Porter Cable 7518 (75182 motor) but need a plunge router. Is there a plunge base available for the 75182 router motor?
KEN K on Oct 22, 2015
BEST ANSWER: This motor is better suited for installing in a table, get something lighter for better control and less fatigue.
