Are woods pre-finished? Can stain and finish be applied once they are installed? I'd like to use them for wood paneling, are they the right material to be used on walls?

I want to resurface painted wood with this veneer. Will it adhere to this type of surface or does it require a perfectly clean wood surface?
Steven C on Nov 12, 2015
BEST ANSWER: To get good adhesion with any veneer application the surface to be covered must be clean and sealed. An old painted surface is perfectly acceptable as long as the paint is fully adhered to the wood surface (no pealing or crackling), is clean ( no grease, oils, or dirt) and if the paint surface is not too slick-- go over the clean painted surface with very fine sandpaper (like 220 grit). Also be certain to get firm pressure onto the veneer; don't treat the veneer like contact paper. The cabinets or whatever you are applying the veneer to should come off the walls so that you can get some real pressure onto the veneer for a solid adhesion.
We have a single step down to our dining room. We are installing hardwood flooring and would like for the riser to look like hardwood too. Since the riser is curved, would this veneer be suitable to use to cover the plywood riser?
Marsha B on Jul 20, 2018
BEST ANSWER: If the curvature of the riser is very minimal it may be ok My concern would be with the stick on the natural spring tension may be to great of a curve would eventually overcome the adhesive and start to lift. I would be more comfortable with bare veneer and using contact cement on the curve,
hope this helps. good luck
do you use an iron to press the veneer to the project ?

I would like to put this over a laminate/formica top... do I have to do any special prep to the formica prior to applying the stick on veneer?
Screaming Lambs on May 18, 2017
BEST ANSWER: Hmmm... Never tried that. First, I'd sand the laminate very well to get rid of the sheen. Would probably be best to try it on some scrap/sample pieces first.
I want to refinish a church pew with pressure sensitive. The old veneer is peeling off in several places. Would this be a good DIY application?
