Purpleheart Bowl Blanks

Item #
GRP40340
Rating:
70% of 100

Initially a dull brown, purpleheart takes on the brilliant royal hue that it's famous for shortly after the wood is cut. Only the heartwood is purple; the sapwood is creamy, pinkish cinnamon. These blanks are almost entirely heartwood, and are dimensioned for turning bowls and small platters. They can also be resawn into blanks for pens, knife scales, bottle stoppers and much more.

Beautiful but the blanks were sealed in wax before being properly dried out
The wood and grain is absolutely beautiful but the two blanks I turned were very very wet and didn't finish well. Because of the wax finish it was impossible to know before I started turning them down. They were Christmas gifts to family so I plan on resending them and letting them dry a bit before trying to refinish them again..

I love the purple heart wood ,but my blank had a crack in it .good that I wasn't using it for a bowl ,I split it in two 6x6x3" blocks so that I had one good piece for my project.not a total loss.

I bought 6"x 6" x 3" and 8" x 8" x 3" I will glue the 2 pcs centered after assuring square. Make 5" deep bowl and 6.5' OR SO ROUND, IT WILL LOOK SWEET. I will have to research the wood to make sure it bonds together easily so as not to waist the expensive blanks.
