Can't Wait
I used my neighbor's SuperMax 19-38 when helping my niece make a dinning room table last summer. I was so impressed I knew it would be my next major tool purchase. Just bought mine last week on sale for $1259. Assembly was easy and the directions were good. No need for any adjustment to parallel feed table to drum. Only concern is the optional infeed/outfeed tables do not mount level with the feed table. Couldn't justify spending $90 for the caster set. Rockler has a set of four for $39. Set of three belts in different grits sold for $26.

drum sanding paper
I own a SuperMax drum sander I brought from Rockler so naturally I use the paper they sell, well because it convent & I usally get free shipping. For those of you who own a drum sander, you know how critical it is to take just a little off at a time. You can easly burn up a roll in no time. an expensive lesson learned as these are about $11.00 a piece. I like these because you can get any grit you little heart desires. If you take your time when first using & learning how your machine works, this paper will work fine for you. Besure to order the correct drum size as some are longer than other or shorter than, you know what I mean.

Excellent machine
My SuperMax 19-38 drum sander is one of my favorite pieces of equipment in my shop. This machine is awesome. I am able to minimize sanding time and maximize surface quality, down to 1/32” thickness. There is a bit of a learning curve with this machine, but if you pay attention to feed back, it is easy to adjust and recover. I’ve used 80- 220 grit windings with superb results. I’m looking forward to using this machine for guitar tops and backs and sides. The SuperMax Drum sander is an excellent machine. You will not be disappointed adding this product to your shop.

Depending on what grit you use, this product works well
After gluing up some pieces of wood to make larger items, I use to take my wood to have them planed down a bit before re-sizing them with my SuperMax sander. problem is with a planer, is the "Sniping factor" that all planers exhibit. I decided to use one roll of 60 grit wrap on the SuperMax and take light passes till I get close to the thickness I need. Then switch to a 220 grit wrap to smooth out the piece. Works slick, and no more sniping at the ends of the wood.

The fairly small amount I have used it, it performs quite well. It does take up a lot of floor space. If you can use this kind of tool, I would not hesitate to recommend buying it.

A good product that fits the machine well, and does the job. I like the 60, 85, and 100 grit to do my basic shaping needs.

It is reoccurring problem with sandpaper strips. They develop a small tear which makes unusable.

BEST ANSWER: THey are 3 inces wide. The length is precut
I just got the SuperMax 19-38. The pine boards really clogged the 80 grit I used. Is this normal? How often should I clean the belt with an eraser? The boards were 32"x48".
Bill M on Mar 26, 2017
BEST ANSWER: I have never sanded any board close to the 32" x 48" size referenced in the question. My work is with much narrower stock for cabinet face frames or doors. Occasionally, I sand 6" or 8" wide boards to remove mill marks. I found that the 80 grit is much too coarse for my work. Even the 120 grit leaves too many scratches. I usually work with red oak or birch. I recently sanded some pine and it left quite a buildup on the sanding belt. I always get buildup over time. Use the eraser as needed. Always use a dust collector.

You may want to experiment with varying the speed of the feed belt or the depth of cut. The instruction manual indicates feeding the stock at an angle will minimize loading of abrasives. I have never tried this.

You may want to research U tube for information on the use of the drum sander or for an email contact with wood workers.
how many pre-cut wraps come in a roll (I've never owned a drum sander)? If it's only one, then it would get real expensive replacing paper wouldn't it?

Thanks
D S on Sep 21, 2016
BEST ANSWER: There is only one wrap in a roll of drum sander sandpaper and at $10.99 per roll it seems expensive. But I can say from experience that the savings of your time spent sanding and the quality outcome of the project is well worth it. Also, if you follow instructions and guidelines on proper techniques of using the sander properly, you will not use up as many rolls as you would think. 60 grit will hog off a lot of wood in a pass but 120 grit requires just a light touch. Like any woodworking machine - if tuned up well and used right it will be an asset rather than a frustration. In flattening re-saws, rings for my segmented turning, or evening out a cutting board I use my SuperMax 19-38 continuously and it saves me hours of time and I get lots of use out of each roll of sandpaper.
will these fit a delta 18-36 drum sander?
Jim M on Apr 16, 2015
BEST ANSWER: Yes Jim, it does. I wanted more variety in grit offered and had to go to SuperMax directly (eg 36 grit). Prices are about the same but shipping is expensive if you go direct. They will also have a clip to help you thread the right edge of the abrasive on the drum if you're having trouble like I have .

Dave
I do need 3"x 70" would this roll be long enough?
Elvia W on Sep 14, 2016
BEST ANSWER: The SuperMax website states that the wrap is 3" x 108.75". I buy the bulk rolls and cut my own.
I have a performax shop pro 25, what size roll of abrasive do I need? I ordered the Jet 16/32 and it covers just over half of the drum.
Dan J on Mar 1, 2016
BEST ANSWER: They asked me to answer and I cannot. I have the performax 19/38. I do, however, usually buy in large rolls and cut off what I need. Using your original strip of abrasive you can determine how long you need. Also the folks at performax are easy to talk with and they can certainly tell you what the length is and/or other options to get what you need.
What are the lengths?
David P on Jan 18, 2019
BEST ANSWER: They are precut to fit the 19-38 drum sander
