Easy and exact
Spent too many hours setting knives on my 4" Rockwell Jointer so I decided to give this a go. Knowing how easy it is with this jig, I'd have paid double.

Woodworking Experience:
A must have jig
This is the greatest tool for aligning the cutting blades on a jointer I have seen in years. You need to know several things before you buy one. First, you get what you pay for. The cheaper ones are plastic with the magnets glued in place. The $40 one is all metal. Second, you must clean out the area where the cutters are fastened. Third, you must follow the directions and use a good quality square to make the marks on the Jointer’s fence when locating top dead center of the first cutter. When this tdc is located, scribe the line on the fence that lines up with the line on the jig. This will assure tdc on the remaining blades. Do not move the position of the outfeed table after aligning the first cutter. When tightening the cutters, start inboard and work your way out. Make sure all cutters are in line from the ends. I believe that all the negative reviews are from people who didn’t follow the directions.

Jig eliminates waves or ridges in jointed boards
I needed the jointer knives replaced on my 6” Jet jointer. I’ve been having jointer blade waves or ridges on my jointed boards for some time which means the edges of the blades aren’t at the same height. The magnetic jointer jig was easy to set up. I installed new blades and have had no more jointer waves.

Best jointer jig on the market
Straight forward and easy to use. Blade changes are much easier, and fast. Blade changes only take me 10-15 min now, and that's just taking it slow and easy. ??

Great jig
Great tool, setup old Craftsman jointer in about 10 minutes and it's producing great results. The hardest part of using the jig was finding the very top of travel of the knifes: once I got that correct it was very easy to reproduce the result on the others.

My jointer has a single 8 inch blade. This makes it so much easier to set it to the proper height when changing or replacing a blade. Before, I would always tend to get one side a hair higher than the other.

I have a very old atlas jointer. Of course I've never used one, and I need to reset the blades because I'm getting a lot of snipe. Will this work for vintage jointers? Thanks!!
Heather T on Dec 16, 2015
BEST ANSWER: I have a Delta 6 inch and I was having problems also until I used this jig and now no more problems. It is very easy to use. Magnets hold it to the outfeed table and magnets hold the knives at the correct height. tighten the screws and you are good to go. Easy to follow instructions.
I have an old craftsman jointer will this work to set my knives?
Jim on Jan 1, 2017
BEST ANSWER: craftsman has made numerous model over the yearsso without knowing what you have I can't say for sure. However, the model I have is six years old and is a 6" table. these jigs worked fine on that particular one.Sorry i can't be more specific.
Is the body made of steel or polycarbonate?
Amac47 on Jan 2, 2016
BEST ANSWER: I just checked the assembly with a magnet; everything on the unit is steel.
Will this unit adjust down to accomadate a 4" jointer.....some do?
Greg P on Feb 13, 2016
BEST ANSWER: I see no reason that the jig would not adjust to a 4" jointer.
Step 3 (fig 1) of the instructions for this jig has us find the top center of the currently installed knife using a straight edge. We then draw a line on the fence so the scribed line on the jig can be aligned with that line we drew on the fence. It seems to me that this top center line we are finding and then marking on the fence is only accurate if the current knife is installed correctly. If the knife is too low, it will not contact the straight edge, if the knife is exactly at the correct height, the line we draw on the fence will be correct, but if the knife is installed too high, the line will be wrong as the knife will contact the straight edge before top center is reached. Am I missing something or do my knives have to be installed exactly right to establish the line on the fence so the jig can be aligned correctly for the first knife change? Also, Step 4, Fig. 2 has us draw another line on the fence further back on the outfeed table so the other scribe mark on the jig aligns with it. Why?
Greg D on Aug 3, 2017
I am not an expert with this device, but I have used mine a couple of times. I have not encountered the exact problem you are describing. However, it seems to me, that if you rest your straight edge on the infeed table so that the end of the straight edge extends over the cutter knives, you should be able to overcome this problem. Once you have positioned the straight edge over a cutter knife, you can rotate the cutter wheel to maximize the height of the knife. You may have to adjust the height of your infeed table as well, in order to accomplish this. Hopefully this will help. Good Luck!
Will this work on my 4 Inch jointer?
A shopper on Sep 1, 2015
BEST ANSWER: It should work as long as you can remove the blade guard and/or the fence, since the jig is made to expand out to an 8" table.
could it work with a 10 in jointer ? What is the limitation ?
Miguel M on May 7, 2018
BEST ANSWER: My guess is that it could, but not positive since I only have a 6" one. Don't see any reason it couldn't, but I have not had to use mine for a while either.
Is there a tool like this that could be used on a13 inch planer?
janice h on Aug 15, 2016
BEST ANSWER: I would say no! A jointer has an indeed table and an out feed table. The out feed table in conjunction with the fence (not part of a jointer) is used for the high point of each blade!. The planner is a constant adjustment every time you take a cut! The jointer usually has limited adjustment! Hope this helps, my Dewalt Planner has two magnetic blade setters that are used for blade height, they work in a similar fashion, but it is a different design withe the same result!
Has anyone used this on a Ridgid jointer?
Christian M on Jan 20, 2016
BEST ANSWER: no, but I don't know why it would not work on any jointer.
Are the bars that contact the blades made of steel or brass?

BEST ANSWER: The bars are steel

will this work with carbide tipped jointer blades?
Rick D on Nov 8, 2016
BEST ANSWER: Tungsten Carbide has very low magnetic properties. The Tungsten Carbide inserts on your jointer knives are probably blazed to the steel blades! The Rockler Jig has a relatively strong magnet so it may work. You should be ~1/8" or less to the magnetic steel, try it, it may work!
