With just four passes on the table saw, the Rockler Miter Fold Dado Set turns a flat sheet of plywood or hardwood into a box with four sides and a top or bottom. The blade cuts a profiled channel through most of the wood, leaving just the face veneer intact. The joint is then folded, hinging on the veneer, which leaves a seamless corner, and grain that flows beautifully through the joint. The miter fold blade can be used to create casework, boxes and drawers with minimal tools and setup, and can also be used as an ordinary 8'' dado set. When compared to a simple v-groove miter fold, the Rockler Miter Fold makes a joint that is stronger, easier to clamp and less prone to glue squeeze-out. The unique locking profile keeps the miters from sliding around under clamping pressure, and creates a longer joint line for greater strength. A common problem with basic 45° miter folds is that glue is funneled to the inside of the joint when the joint is folded closed. The Rockler Miter Fold uses a rabbet profile at the inside of the joint to reduce this tendency. The result is a strong, clean joint with almost no sanding required.

Features:

  • Just four cuts to make a box with four sides and a top/bottom
  • Works with plywood or hardwood ranging from 1/4'' to 3/4'' nominal thickness
  • One box from a single sheet of material means perfect grain match, with flow-through grain at four edges
  • Veneer can be left intact for a truly seamless look (use tape to reinforce the delicate veneer)
  • Lock miter design allows easier clamping miters won't slide around under clamping pressure
  • More glue area than a simple V-groove type miter fold joint
  • Rabbet profile on inside of joint helps to stop glue squeeze-out toward interior of box
  • May also be used as an 8'' dado set for cutting dados
  • High-grade carbide teeth for sharpness and durability
Table saw must be capable of running an 8'' dado stack. Some saws may require a thinner arbor nut/flange to cut miter folds in 3/4'' material. Not compatible with SawStop or any other saws equipped with flesh-detection technology. Specially profiled blade is compatible with the included dado set only.

Perfect drawers
I found the instruction manual to be well written, set-up was straight forward and final adjustments were easy. I made several drawers in under a hour from start to finish and they came out great. Perfectly square and beautiful cabinet drawers from plywood in no time at all.

I bought this so I can make custom planter boxes. I went slow for the first setup to make sure I got it right. Now I can work fast and the glue up is a lot faster. Next project is keepsake boxes. This was a good investment.

Works great for hardwood faux beams
I made a four post style bed and rather than trying to find extra think lumber, and pay for the extra board footage, I was able to create a beam with continuous grain.
Very sturdy, lighter weight. Just one more option you could use with the miter fold dado set.
Full size bed. 3" by 2.5" post make up the two ends.

There are other ways to make drawers
...but this one makes it easy and elegant. I made one test box and learned that the distance from the cutting line to the fence is critical when moving the work from the left side to the right side. I figured out a way to make that measurement exactly, and I've been making perfect drawers ever since. Before buying the blade, I had made 36 drawers for my workshop, but am considering remaking them with the miter fold blade now that I have it, because they will be better than the ones I made the "old way."

WOW!
I'm replacing cabinets in Master Bath. No fixed shelves - rolling shelves. 4" sides, front and rear. What a snap in building these and all drawers for the cabinets. Once you adjust to the point of the fold blade, getting it right all the time is a snap. It took about one hour to miter 7 4" high rolling drawers to cut, fold and glue them up! FANTASTIC!!!

I am very happy so far. Can't wait to use it some more. It will make the smaller project that much cooler.
I have some learning still to do with this set. Down pressure and clean lines are a must. I am impressed with what I did on the short time I've worked with this set so far.
First full box.
Love the way the corners are crisp and clean even for the first box. Much to learn still.

How is sharpening handled with this blade set?
Fred H on Mar 8, 2017

We are hoping to have this completed by 6/26/2017..”

What grade of carbide is used on the teeth of the Miter Fold Dado set, C1, C2 or C3?

I understand that plywood is the target. Is it possible that this might work with solid woods, such as cherry?
Daniel H on Apr 22, 2017
BEST ANSWER: Yes, it will work, I made miter fold cuts in walnut for my current box project.
Will this work on a Dewalt DWE7491?
Rudy B on Apr 8, 2017
BEST ANSWER: It looks like the max Dado width it accepts is 13/16" this is definitely enough to make miter fold joints in up to 1/2" plywood.
Can the blade be purchased without the dado set if you already have a dado set?
Flint B on Jan 27, 2017
BEST ANSWER: No, since the diameter of the profiled blade needs to match the dado, and selling them together is the only way to make sure they match.
Why is this not compatible with saw stop?
chuck k on Apr 26, 2017
BEST ANSWER: Per Andrew Klein via an instagram message to me:::
from Andrew Klein on Instagram re Sawstop that the product description does not share: "It won't work with the sawstop because the diameter of the miter fold blade is too large to fit with the 8" dado brake, and the saw won't run without a break installed, even in bypass."
Where is this made? Not China, I hope...
Thomas S on Jun 2, 2017
BEST ANSWER: yup - china.
Is it possible to use this blade for cabinet drawer boxes that will have undermount drawer slides? Typically those slides require a 1/2" clearance between the drawer bottom and the sides, so thought I would ask.
Taylor K on Jan 27, 2017
BEST ANSWER: Yes, but I would make the drawers like I made the ones for my kitchen: https://youtu.be/Gf3vwThMEKU
Is the blue painter's tape required? Issues if it is not used? It is shown in many of the product videos.
Peter H on Mar 8, 2017
BEST ANSWER: I generally like using the tape to keep the drawer pieces together as they are being cut, but the recommendation is to leave the tip of the specially profiled blade 1/32" below the top of the workpiece when cutting. If this is done it will all stay together without the tape, but the tape is still nice to protect the workpiece from glue squeeze out. Long story short, I like using tape, but you can get away without it.
Can this product run on a SawStop in bypass mode or is the diameter greater than 8" and beyond the adjustment of the blade brake?
Tim V on Jun 2, 2017
BEST ANSWER: The Miter Fold Dado Set is not compatible with SawStop or any other saws equipped with flesh-detection technology.
I have an Incra Table Saw Fence set-up. Noticed that the fence must be moved to the opposite side of the blade for the second set of cuts. Any thoughts on how to handle something like my situation? Thanks for any hints.
Fred H on Mar 8, 2017
BEST ANSWER: The MiterFold should only be used according to included instructions. If anything (in your setup) would require you to deviate from the instructions it should not be used!
Can someone please name ALL the table saws that I can buy that will work with this stacked dado blade?
Robert L on Jul 2, 2017
BEST ANSWER: You will physically have to measure the arbor on each. To achieve a cut on anything 1/2" or greater, you will need an arbor longer than 1 1/2" to make room for arbor washer and arbor nut. I went searching and found that many machines do not accommodate a stacked dado thicker than 5/8". Which is fine except that the extra blade now makes this 1" thick.
When folding the wood to 90 degrees, does the wood ever split or splinter? If so, is there a cure?
Leland D on May 31, 2017
BEST ANSWER: Yes it can if the blade height isn't adjusted properly. Make some test cuts in the stock you are working with to find the best height.
After looking thru all the documentation I need a simple answer to determine whether I can justify the money for this Dado stack. It really appeals to me and would like to know what length arbor is required for 3/4" lumber up to the max the stack will handle? Not just being told that for my saw might not work isn't the answer. All saws don't have the same thickness washer and nut. This would be a second dado stack for me and the only thing that the miter-fold does that mine won't is the reason I need this info.
Jim W on Jul 3, 2017
BEST ANSWER: That's a very fair question. To answer it properly you will need to measure the maximum distance between arbor flange and washer your saw can accommodate while still having the nut fully threaded onto the arbor. I can tell you what that distance needs to be to cut a miter fold in 3/4" material, and if your saw has more than this capacity then you'll be able to make this cut. I'm sticking with 3/4" material here, because the "max the stack can handle" is in theory quite high and all saws, including mine, are a arbor limited, but 3/4" is really as far as anyone needs to go.
Is this compatible with the Bosch 4100? Will the Bosch 4100 have sufficient power to run this to handle 3/4 ply?
Chin Hing C on Feb 4, 2017
BEST ANSWER: I can't find the exact specs on that saw, but I suspect the arbor isn't long enough to accommodate enough of the dado to make miter fold joints in 3/4" ply. Might be able to do 1/2" though.
This looks almost too good to be true. What I mean is, do the 90 degree laminate folds hold up long term? Do they start splitting at some point? I am asking because this can be a great way for me to make fireplace mantels that look like one thick piece of wood!
Jeff S on Jun 16, 2017
BEST ANSWER: The first drawers I made in May of 2015 with the prototype of this tool have held up well, and that prototype had some messed up dimensions, so the joint wasn't nearly as tight as the ones made by the product Rockler is selling. So I'm quite confident in the long term performance of the joints. Yes, this would work well for a mantel, one caveat, I probably would plan on using a sled to make the cuts, as mantels are large, and the 3rd and 4th cuts would be a bit unwieldily without a sled to stabilize everything.
How about Shopsmith with the 5/8 extended molder arbor? I would think it could.
Kevin S on Mar 9, 2017
BEST ANSWER: I'm a Shopsmith owner.... this works fine with a Shopsmith in terms of arbor size, etc. You'd perhaps be pushing a 520 as they are best suited to a 6" dado setup (only with regards to the horsepower of the machine head).... If you have the new Power Pro head (with a bit more speed and horsepower), you'll be fine. I'm enjoying my Miter Fold Set with my Shopsmith.
Can you use it in a stopsaw with the 10" brake installed to make room for this learner tha 8 dado stack but of course set the stopsaw to bypass mode?
Paulm on Jun 30, 2017
BEST ANSWER: No, this will not work because sawstop brakes have a blade proximity sensor, so they can only run if the blade is sufficiently close to the brake. This needs to happen before it runs, regardless of whether or not it is in bypass.
Does this set include all shims and blades necessary to do 3/4" plywood? Thanks.
David W on Oct 21, 2017
BEST ANSWER: I can't say. All the boxes and drawers that I have made have been with 1/2" and 5/8" stock. I know it works great on those sizes. Sorry.
Can this item be bought without the dado?
Donald C on Sep 2, 2017
BEST ANSWER: No it is the dado that makes it work?
Can I use this with my Dewalt DWE7491RS?
Antoine C on Aug 21, 2017
BEST ANSWER: I have an older DeWalt cabinet makers table saw. It works fine on my saw, though I have not tried it with 3/4" material. If your saw has a 5/8" arbor, and it will take a standard 8" dado stack to cut up to 3/4" dados, this should work on your saw.

One word of caution. Depending upon the size of the drawers you plan to make, you will need an indeed table, outfeed table, and plenty of table space on both sizes of the fence. This becomes necessary because once you have made two of the cuts, the plywood blank that will become your drawer turns into a floppy noodle that is subject to damage if not properly supported.
Will this work on a Porta Cable PCB270TS?
jj87209 j on Aug 5, 2017
BEST ANSWER: Many readily available big box table saws can only support dado stack up to 3/4". The dado stack for the miter fold when using 3/4" veneered plywood is 0.870+", and goes down as the material thickness is reduced. Verify your table saws max dado size.
can the miter fold be used on material less than 3/4 thick ?
Bill C on Jun 1, 2017
BEST ANSWER: I only received the new miter fold dado set yesterday, so I have not yet used it. However, according to the miter fold setup chart on pages 16 and 17 of the instructions, you can use it on plywood thicknesses ranging from 15/64 up to 7/8. The max depends upon the length of the arbor and saw design.
I am trying to install the miter fold dado set on a Powermatic 2000 and the arbor seems too short. I'm trying to use the suggested setup for 45/64" material. The usable arbor length is 1.258" while the stack is 1.0055" and the outside washer is .373" and the nut is .624" for a total of 2.0025". In trying to use 1/2" settings, the stack is .806", so with the washer and nut its 1.803". The manual's pictures show a Powermatic cabinet saw, so what am I missing?
James A on Apr 11, 2018
BEST ANSWER: Hello James, Some saws may require a thinner arbor nut/flange to cut miter folds in 3/4'' material, but the dimensions you are describing for the PM 2000 are surprising, according to your numbers the saw can only accommodate 1.258 - .373 - .624 = .261" of dado? Meaning you can't load 3/8" worth of standard dado blade thickness on a PM 2000?
If using a sled to work with a larger piece of plywood wouldn't it be more efficient to make one long 4 - sided tube of plywood at the dimension of the drawer sides and while still flat just use the regular dado stack without the specialty blade to cut out the drawer bottom locations then fit the bottoms into the plywood tube during glue up and then cut off each drawer at each bottom location? Wouldn't this be faster to do multiple drawers at once and eliminate the need to cut off the 4 corners for each drawer?
Peter S on Jan 24, 2018
BEST ANSWER: It sounds more efficient, but I have never tried it myself. Sorry I couldn't be of help.
Where to find plans for boxes to use the Rockler Miter Fold Dado Set on?
IRestore on Jan 8, 2018

I have a bunch of extra 14 ply 1 inch material that I'd like to use. I know that the specs max out at 3/4 inch stock but curious if it would work to remove the pattern bit and run through with a second pass?
Matthew G on Oct 25, 2017
BEST ANSWER: I think it will not work on anything
bigger than 3/4". going deeper would leave an additional facet in the cut.
This looks so totally fantastic. I know I want it. I currently have a De Walt DW744 type 1 table saw with a 13A motor. Will your blade work with my DeWalt? If not, what do you recommend? My husband says it doesn't matter what it costs, just so long as it is a good one. My experience is building a house (2500 sq ft plus 1200 sq ft shop/garage), from drawing blueprints through building all the cabinets in kitchen and bathrooms on to roofing, wiring, plumbing, tiling, etc. It took me 9 1/2 yrs, but I was holding down a full time job throughout. Now I am married to someone who knows so much more than I do, and we are planning on building a second house which we will do almost all the work ourselves. This next house is much nicer than my present one, so being able to do the drawers so much easier makes me very excited. I started my current house when I had just tuned 50, and now I am almost 76. So I don't have as much time to complete this new house! I know my daughter (like mother, like daughter) will be jealous of this blade! Thanks for the help on deciding what table saw I should buy next. (I have a TimeSaver which is also a great tool)
Tobi aka Bubee on Jul 22, 2017
BEST ANSWER: Small job site saws and the Sawstop tables saws (saws with flesh detection) are NOT RECOMMENDED for this blade. That being said you CAN use saws such as Jet and Powermatic in a cabinet or contractor size.
what is the smallest thickness it can cut ??????
Guy R on Jun 30, 2017
BEST ANSWER: it can cut a miter fold joint in material just under 1/4", so nominally 1/4" plywood can be miter folded.
Will this blade work on the Laguna 1.75hp Fusion table saw fitted with a 5/8" arbor?
Denzill L on Jun 23, 2017
BEST ANSWER: Yes, it will work, and definitely be able to make miter fold joints in up to 1/2" plywood. I think the Fusion might be a little short on arbor to make a miter fold in 3/4" material.
