Rockler Pitch & Resin Remover

Ready-to-use solution quickly and easily cleans away the residue buildup that develops on blades and bits. Cleaner cutting edges will give you superior machining results and extend the life of your tools. Pitch & Resin Remover is easy to use. Spray and coat thoroughly all surfaces. Let stand 5-8 minutes prior to using a cloth, brush or steel wool to remove residue. This solution may be sprayed to reach crevices and locations where additional cleaning is required. 1 quart concentrate makes 1 gallon of remover when mixed 1 part to 3 parts water, or can be used full strength if necessary. A shallow baking pan works well for soaking saw blades, plane knives and other flat cutting instruments. Use a jar-shaped container for soaking router bits, shaper cutters and drill bits. When buildup is heavy, re-apply as necessary.Dry tools thoroughly to avoid rusting while in storage.

Cleaning Lawn Mower Blades
I have been happy with the product for cleaning saw blades and router bits, but I recently found a new use: cleaning the heavy pitch build up on my 28 inch lawn mower blade.

How to: Protect hands with Nitrile or similar gloves. Mix up about a pint of solution from concentrate with the prescribed ratio (directions). Instead of soaking the blade, I just generously brushed on the solution with a disposable foam brush. After letting it sit for a few minutes apply more until the gunk on the blade softens, then attack it with a paint scraper and steel wool. Repeat as necessary. When done, clean wash the blade with clear water then wipe dry. Sharpen blade, prime & paint it, and you're done.

Previously I was using a wire brush on a drill or bench grinder to remove the hardened pitch. This method was much faster and more effective.

This stuff works really well on saw blades and router bits. Soak them for a few minutes then gently scrub them with a brass wire brush.

My blades develop a residue, especially with tougher woods. Rather than pay to have the resin removed professionally, I can get a bit more life before resharpening.

BEST ANSWER: Our town has a recycle for hazzardous waste like motor oil , I take mine there
Can this be used for cleaning the rollers on a planner?
Patrick S on Mar 19, 2019
BEST ANSWER: If they are metal rollers, like on a large machine, it might work fine. If they are hard rubber ones, like on a lunchbox planer, I think I would want more info from Rockler. The stuff is formulated for metal. I doubt it would damage rubber, but I don't know enough to say for sure.
Can this product be used on a bandsaw blade while it is on the machine? Will it cause any problems with the bandsaw tires?
paul m on Sep 26, 2019
BEST ANSWER: I have only used this on my table saw blades and router bits. As the instructions say, they need to soak for a few minutes. This is a water based citrus type cleaner and not a powerful solvent. I also rinse my blades and bits and dry them thoroughly to prevent rust. I think you would be wise to remove your blade to clean it. It’s not that much trouble, and will work much better. Because it is water based, it should not harm your urethane tires, but if you slop it, you may get some equipment rusting.
Is this safe to use on teflon coated blades?
Nace H on Dec 22, 2015
BEST ANSWER: Yes, just don't let it sit for too long.
What is it made of?
A shopper on Apr 13, 2015
BEST ANSWER: There is an MSDS "Material Safety Data Sheet" on this item on the Rockler web site for this item. It lists all the ingredients as required by law.
