It's Great
Since I haven't had to use it yet, it's great! I have been fortunate enough to have kept my fingers away from the blades, so it's mate is still on patrol. SawStop is worth ever penny.

SawStop Dado Stop
Hey, it is what it is...it just took me a moment to figure out why
my Saw Stop would not run with the dado blade installed. Then
I realized dado blade is 8" vs. 10" regular blade, and the blade
brake must be installed within a specific clearance in order to work properly. Hence, the need for a dado brake. Duh...!

Tripped the brake
I tripped the brake when I ran the miter gauge into the dado stack. My fault for not checking the clearance when I changed the angle. The system worked flawlessly with a very loud disheartening "thunk."

The miter gauge had a nearly imperceptible nick in it. Unfortunately, one outside blade of the dado stack suffered a bent tooth significant enough to be unrepairable.

Another mistake may have contributed to the damage: When I mounted the stack, I used the blade stabilizer. I don't think the mounting nut engaged enough threads on the arbor. The nut and stabilizer came off during the braking event causing the stack blades and chippers to be skewed in the brake shoe. I think if the blades had stopped square in the shoe, there would have been little to no damage to the dado.

Next time I will not use the stabilizer and double check the miter gauge. One must pay for ones mistakes. I hope this info will help others avoid the same costly misfortune.

Required Accessory
If you are going to be cutting dados with your Saw Stop saw, you must have the dado brake. Because dado blades are only 8" in diameter, you need to change out the regular brake when you are using dado blades.

Change over from the regular brake is relatively easy.

I have seen this demonstrated, and it is amazing. That being said, I hope never to have to put this brake to use. It is easy to exchange with the brake for regular blades. One think to keep in mind is that this brake only works with 8 inch dado heads. I had to sell my 6 inch Freud dado head and buy a new 8 inch Freud dado head for use with this dado brake cartridge. The brake simply will not work with a 6 inch dado head.

SawStop saw requires a different brake for doing dado work that the regular brake. Since I do a lot of dado work, I wanted the proper brake.

Will this cartridge work with other brands of stacked dado blades?
Lynn Y on Dec 26, 2015
BEST ANSWER: Lynn, the answer is yes. It's not a question of brand but of circumference, and blade circumferences as far as I know are standard sizes. Check around for the sizes. I don't want to quote you wrong information. One thing for sure: The blade must be a credit card's width away from the cartridge in order for it to work and not be damaged by the blades. Check your SawStop manual for details or look up the manual online. BBW in Pebble Beach
is the cartridge compatible with other brands of table saws?
mary r on Nov 29, 2015
BEST ANSWER: The cartridge is made for SawStop table saws only. I don't think other table saws have the electronics or ability to function like SawStop. However, I believe Bosch will be giving SawStop some competition soon, though but will use a different breaking design. Hope this helps.
