Simple Scribe Simple Scribe Scribing Tool
Simple Scribe

Scribing cabinets to butt neatly against an uneven wall has never been so simple and foolproof! To set your scribing distance with the Simple Scribe, just rotate the tool so that the appropriate face rests against the wall. The Simple Scribe has seven facets with scribing distances from 1/4'' to 1'' in 1/8'' increments. Unlike many ordinary compass scribes, your setting won't slide around under pressure, as it is permenantly fixed. The pencil also won't slide, as it uses a threaded interface to fold it firmly. Use any ordinary pencil. Made in USA.

Features:
  • Designed and created by an expert carpenter
  • Simple, robust construction—no moving parts to break
  • Lightweight and portable—a great addition to any jobsite tool bag
  • Holds regular pencils firmly in place with a clever thread
  • Seven faces with offsets between 1/4'' and 1''

Helpfull when you need it
This is one of those tools I don't use offten but when I need it, I don't have to figure something some other way to get the job done. Just get it out of the drawer, stick a pencil in it and mark. Don't cost much, would recommend you get one.

Easier to Keep Straight Than a Compass
I used it to scribe some door casings and found it much easier to keep the edge against the wall than a compass. The only disadvantage is that you are limited to 1/8" increments for the setback.

Cool product, but...
I like the product, but pencil moves more than I thought it would. Could be operator error.

Neat idea but never used
I liked the idea of this and bought one in the Rockler check out line, but in several years have honestly never used it. :(

Good idea-Poor execution.
The concept was great but I couldn't get a pencil to go through it, round or hex, three different brands. It was well thought through with a tapered hole but the tolerances were by necessity tight, and the manufacturing did not meet the standard it required. I eventually drilled it out and added a set screw to hold the pencil.

Have been looking for something like this for a while. The other tools for this are always difficult to make a consistent accurate scribe line.

18 year old son wanted it to use when he made a knock-down wardrobe with no metal- all pinned, 100% wood. He used old-style tools for the authentic look.
