Summit Pen Kit
These pens look great. Be careful when installing the mechanism. It appears to be deeper then instructions say. Maybe me? Operator error? I just wonder....

SUMMIT PEN AND DRILL PIT OFFER
The Rockler Summit Pen and Drill bit offer is a great value. Great pricing on the pen sets and I needed a back up drill bit. Pens make a great gift.

Oh, I enjoyed making the pen.
The bushings should be included in the kit. Otherwise you will have to continuously measure the diameter at the various critical points.

Trust the instructions; look at a catalog or online picture.
I turned one of these after doing a Rockler Top-Long pen. Getting the metal center band tenon turned is a bit dicey, but I did it OK with a parting tool. A picture of a completed pen shows that the diameter of the wood on the other side of the center band is less than that of the band itself. The instructions don't make that clear, although it says turn right down to the bushings. I had to figure that out myself. You have to press the mechanism into the longer tube WAY past the indent to make the point emerge from the nib. I had to figure that out myself. Once past those problems, I'm happy with the way the pen turned out. PS. The Center Band is still on the mandrel once turning is done, so be careful not to scratch the center band when sanding. Some masking tape might help here. Rating is only 3 stars because of inadequate instructions.

Not the easiest kit
This was the very first kit I turned, and I still wouldn't recommend it. It's definitely not for beginners, and the center ring is just ugly in the end. If you plan on using a CA finish at the end, this isn't the right kit. Great price, but not my favorite by any means.

If you buy several kits of the same why would you need a twist drill bit in each of them?
Eladio M on Nov 19, 2017
BEST ANSWER: You only need one drill. Order the kit with the drill, and some other kits without the drill. You don't have to order the drill if you already had a 7mm dill bit
Do u use the same mandrel for slim line pens as the cigar style pens just different bushings?
Spider on Mar 5, 2017
BEST ANSWER: Yes, use the same mandrel, just purchase the bushing set that matches the particular pen you are making. You may want to make sure you have a set or two of mandrel spacers,
Where can you buy the tips for the ink pens.I can find all of the hardware but them?
David C on Jun 12, 2018
BEST ANSWER: I buy all my pen making kits, hardware, tools, etc from Rockler or Penn State Industries. Both of these sources have all the parts necessary.
