I purchased an old roll top desk but there was no key and the locks had been schellacked over. Could not find parts anywhere. Found at Rockler. Good job. Peace
It replaced a European lock of the same type. The installation required of the lock cylinder hole to be enlarged. The hole was enlarged by sanding ( the cylinder was only .003")
This is certainly a vary good product and will be used on another piece. I am still trying to use the original locking devise for my antique cabinet door. Even thought yours would be much easier to install I want to keep the door as close to original as possible.
I used this lock on a collectible coin box that I made and the outcome was very good.It was just exactly the dimensions as stated and was very easy to work with.
I am a caregiver and I needed this lock to use on a folding door going down the stairs and I already have the same lock on another folding door in the house leading to the upstairs. Thank you:)

BEST ANSWER:This lock is designed to mount from the back side, the cylinder is slid through a hole made by you about 3/4" wide and deep, mounting screws attach it from the back, it comes with a nice beauty trim ring, finishes off with the catch plate which is mortised into the desk top. Bored deeper to allow clear and positive latching, a very sturdy lock, I purchased two and the work perfectly !

I haven't installed it yet but I can see how well this unit is designed. This is the main reason I purchased this unit. I have looked at probably 25 other designs. This one matches the idea I had when I began researching.
I purchased this latch for retaining the hinged lid on a box I built for my quad. It was easy to install and works well. I placed the striker plate in the lid. Mike
BEST ANSWER:Comes with. This is a difficult lock to install right on the first try. The trick is getting the center of the core high enough to make sure that the plate lowers far enough to engage the latch hooks. The tambour lock is more forgiving. I use it exclusively for my locking pistol boxes.
I ended up experimenting drilling holes in a scrap piece of wood. After about 3 or 4 attempts I found that the lock needs to be lowered 1 inch from the lip. When working on the final project I cut the mortise for the latch hooks on an oversized lid and made the connection. From there I was able to cut the lid to my desired dimensions. Lock works breat. But I could have save myself some time had instructiins been in kuded.

Tim, I have no way to provide this diagram, I purchased this item as a replacement, and the cabinet is no longer in my possession. Sorry, not much help
BEST ANSWER:Joshua, Yes this lock spreads open to lock and closes together to unlock. The tabs on the locking mechanism catch on the back side of the plate once in the lock/full open position. You will need to mortise an area deep enough behind the plate to allow the locking mechanism tabs to go past the plate.

BEST ANSWER:I used this lock for a cedar chest I built for my grand daughter. I used it because I didn't want any thing to show other than were the key went in the front. I would suggest you use a couple of scrap wood pieces before you mount it to the doors. Getting the latch aligned is very important to being able to make the lock work.

BEST ANSWER:No, that is not a pushbutton release. You can lock it with out the key by letting the rolltop close by itself, but you must have the key to unlock it.
